Kaori Nagase
English snuffbox
Sketch #1
1. What type of people used this snuffbox? What class or rank were they of? Male or female?
2. Was snuff commonly used like how some people today smoke whenever they are outside? (look at question number 3)
3. Was the snuffbox used as a daily object and i.e: carried around in someone’s pocket? vs. Did it serve more of a decorative purpose?
4. As this snuffbox is covered with gold and jewels, having an overall bright color scheme, did people like to wear showy bright, flashy clothing or jewelry? –> What was the fashion like at the time (1745-1750)?
Kaori,
I was looking at the picture of your object on the moodle, (your sketch is awesome by the way) and i was just wondering how large your object is (just for clarification). I think #1 will be a good question to focus on and I think question #2 will be really good for the presentation because it can give us modern perspective on a historical object. You’re definitely going to be able to incorporate the accompanying themes on the object list too, with questions 3 and 4. Great job! XD
