You’re sketches are great, and you’re questions are really interesting. Looking at you’re questions the ones that interested me the most are probably 3 and 4, and I think that they are highly related. I would say that once you’ve found the answers to those questions then you’ll be able to answer even broader questions like “What are the implications of this object on Ming China…” and things like that. Also, does anyone still play the pipa? Not really cause it’s a good question. Just wondering?
PIPA RESEARCH QUESTIONS: (Sketch #1 in the assignment)
#1: What does it sound like?
#2: For what reasons, and under what circumstances, was he pipa played? Who would have listened to it and why?
#3: Who made this pipa (and instruments like it) and who would have purchased/owned/ played it?
#4: What role did music play in Ming China?
#5: Did the instrument ave any religious significance? (apart from the symbols and figures on the back)…
