1. Was chocolate a rare and expensive commodities or were they common?
2. At what time would this object have been made?
3. As cocoa beans come from South America, was this a major export, and was chocolate popular?
4. What country did this chocolate pot come from and what was it’s relationship with South America?
I find the first question very interesting because I love chocolate, and I’d love to find out if they had it in as much abundance back then as we do now. The second makes me wonder if this was for special occasions, and if chocolate was a special part of a family dinner or something. The third also makes me want to compare cocoa exports with present-day and find out if chocolate was as or more popular than it is now. The origin of the pot is also interesting, because it would tell us a lot about any specific society that it may have come from, and, obviously, if they liked chocolate or not. The drawing itself is interesting, because the pot does have a pretty obscure usage by today’s standards, as we don’t really keep chocolate in decorative pots. A vase would be a good disguise for what we today might see a an otherwise useless household accessory. Great job on the beautiful flowers. They were the first things that caught my eye.

Chocolate pot as a vase.
