About

Through the generosity of Dalton’s Head of School Ellen Stein and her full support, David Macaulay will be Dalton’s third Original Mind Scholar for the 2009-2010 academic year.

David brings a range of talents and abilities to our school, he has written and illustrated over 25 books, received a Caldecott Medal in 1991 and a MacArthur grant in 2006. His books are well known to our students for their insight, unusual way of explaining complex systems, imaginative and original illustration and dry sense of humor. David was at Dalton last year for a presentation of his most recent publication, The Way We Work. He is excited to collaborate with Dalton students and teachers in all divisions and departments, and willing to share his ideas about writing and illustration. David will be coming to the school one day each month.

Robert Meredith will be coordinating his time, so if faculty are interested in collaborating with David on a project, please email me with your ideas and a sense of when in the academic year a project might best work into your curriculum.

This blog is set up to showcase both David’s sketches throughout the year and those done by students and faculty in all three divisions at Dalton.

Posted here will also be upcoming visits and meeting times:

David Macaulay will be spending many days through the year with the Dalton Community.  Posted here are his upcoming visiting schedules and meeting times.  Please contact Robert Meredith if you have any query.
