{"id":648,"date":"2013-11-05T21:53:33","date_gmt":"2013-11-06T02:53:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.dalton.org\/scifan\/?p=648"},"modified":"2013-11-05T21:53:33","modified_gmt":"2013-11-06T02:53:33","slug":"enders-game-the-book-what-scifan-members-think","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dalton.org\/scifan\/2013\/11\/05\/enders-game-the-book-what-scifan-members-think\/","title":{"rendered":"Ender&#8217;s Game (the Book): What SciFan Members think&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, SciFan members answered the following questions and the outcomes are recorded here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Average Age of SciFan Members first reading Ender&#8217;s Game: 12.2<\/b><\/li>\n<li><strong>75% have re-read the book since.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Average rating of the book by SciFan Members: 9.0733333333<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Some of the reasons that we love the book:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Ender&#8217;s character development (especially his struggle with being like Peter).<\/li>\n<li>All the tactics in the books and how smart Ender was tactically.<\/li>\n<li>Ender&#8217;s strategies, the descriptions, the premise.<\/li>\n<li>The ending with a twist, not the\u00a0cookie cutter type.<\/li>\n<li>Ender&#8217;s interactions with his fellow soldiers\/commanders, (especially Bean.)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Ender&#8217;s ability as a leader, and how he wasn&#8217;t just a good commander, he was loved by the people who served under him<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Ender&#8217;s interactions with the other commanders. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Reading about how his army was pushed to exhaustion was really engaging. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Any of the times Ender thought of something simply brilliant. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">The parallel of Valentine and Peter, and how they reoccur in the later books. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">How the author described world events in such an interesting way and how serious and smart everything is.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\"> The descriptions of all the political and &#8220;power plays.&#8221; <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Ender&#8217;s brilliance in unifying most of the great soldiers and how he usually outsmarts the grown-ups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">The MIND Game &#8211;\u00a0one of the most horrifying side plots<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">How the author shows us the devastating effects of War, Manipulation, but also the healing power of humanities. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">The psychological aspect was really interesting, especially with Valentine and Peter. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">The characters are ALL brilliant and complex, and in a purposeful way. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Valentine and Peter.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">The book did a great job of portraying Ender&#8217;s deliberate way of doing things while still showing us that he got more and more jaded by what he said and did. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">How a great deal of the book was inside of Ender&#8217;s head and you really understood him as a character and as a person. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">The battle school.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Peter and Valentine being two immensely complex and interesting characters. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">The Valentine-Peter subplot.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, SciFan members answered the following questions and the outcomes are recorded here: Average Age of SciFan Members first reading Ender&#8217;s Game: 12.2 75% have re-read the book since.
