Neil Gaiman at the Newbery Banquet

On July 12th, 2009, Neil Gaiman delivered his Newbery medal acceptance speech.  It was a wonderful  talk, about The Graveyard Book, about being an outcast who grew up with books in the library, and about the power of literature.  I had fun that night sitting next to author Richard Peck and chatting with Ingrid Law, author of Savvy, another honoree of the evening.  Here is a picture of Gaiman and me:
