The Ermine Street Guard.
The Ermine Street Guard is a society dedicated to research into the Roman Army and the reconstruction of Roman armour and equipment. The reconstructions are primarily from the latter half of the first century A.D. although equipment from other Roman periods is reproduced for experimental and display purposes.

“The purpose of the Second Legion Adiutrix is the re-creation of various facets of ancient life and warfare in the late 1st Century AD (70 – 100), both for the education of the public and for our own pleasure and edification. We do this by means of historical reenactments and living history demonstrations. The Legion will maintain an active philosophy of public outreach as well as a strong dedication to historical accuracy and continuing research in order to make all of its public displays, private events, and recreational participations as accurate as practical.  The Legion may select a number of military or civilian impressions to be presented (either separately or simultaneously), but all will be based on the best possible research, and prepared according to the Legion’s Purpose and guidelines.”.

Today’s Legio VI Victrix recreates a garrison camp near the Roman city of Eburacum (modern York) in the province of Britannia. Our members portray the foot soldiers and officers of the legion, Imperial officials, and the civilian denizens of a Roman province. Our military activities are based around a late Roman army unit, the Batavi Iuniores Britanniciani, which arrived in Britain in 360 A.D. and returned in 367 A.D. They then formed part of the mobile field army and remained here at least until the end of Roman rule in Britain. There is a strong probability that parts of the unit may have stayed to defend Britain against the Saxon invaders, as part of the Romano-British forces into the 5th century.”
