I keep forgetting to announce that the second part – at least, I think it’s the second part – of the AMC is on the morning of 2/24. I believe that is also co-curricular day. So, students interested in taking the test will need to come in to school early and take the test before the beginning of co-curricular day. If you’re interested, please let Mr. Sturm know.

We’re going to have a speaker on November 1 (date still to be confirmed) discussing the Poincare conjecture. This is a famous conjecture, recently proved, in the field of mathematics known as topology. I’d like the seminar students to learn something about topology before the lecture in November. Toward that end, I think the seminar students should collectively write a a paper on basic topology. I’ll create a wiki page where you can all contribute. We can do this in class. I’m currently compiling a list of sources for you to look at. Right now I’m just giving you a heads up that this is on the horizon. I’d also like to know if you feel as if you are about to be tortured.
