Books We Read In Library: Grade 2

Sector 7

- Date: 10.19.09

In honor of their field trip to the Empire State Building this week, 2nd grade took a look at the book Sector 7 by David Wiesner.   (Some of you may remember when he visited Little Dalton in 2008!  Check out the Videos page on this blog to see our message to him.)

This wordless picture book follows a boy as he goes with his class to the Empire State Building.   Adventure ensues when he is befriended by a cloud who takes him to the fantastical cloud world of Sector 7.  The detailed illustrations and imaginative story make this a fun book for people of all ages.  And who knows – maybe some of our 2nd graders will meet a cool cloud on their trip!

Robot Zot!

- Date: 10.14.09

This week 2nd grade students got a kick out of Jon Scieszka’s latest book, Robot Zot!

Zot

With a Scieszka story and David Shannon illustrations, you really can’t go wrong.  What a pair!  The laughter in the room was contagious.

Hilary and the Lions

- Date: 10.8.09

This week 2nd grade students heard the story Hilary and the Lions by Frank Desaix.

The book describes the adventures of Hilary, a young girl who gets lost in New York City and goes off with the lions from the public library.

The children got quite a kick out of the story, especially since they are studying New York City this year!
