In honor of National Poetry Month, all grades will share wonderful poetry by different famous poets throughout April.
March is Women’s History Month!
2nd and 3rd grade students have shared biographies of various inspirational women in honor of the national celebration.
In honor of Black History Month, 2nd grade classes enjoyed beautiful African American folktales:
Mirandy and Brother Wind
Sukey and the Mermaid
Leola and the Honeybears
Students loved hearing these age-old tales.
This year a whopping FIVE books won the Caldecott Honor Medal (silver)!
Students have really enjoyed comparing all the winners and giving their opinion about the results.
All the students in every grade have been so excited to talk about the 2013 Caldecott Award and Newbery Award winners. The American Library Association announced the winners of all their book awards on Monday, January 28th.

It’s a new year and a new library blog!
As Second Grade students begin to delve deeper into reading, they are learning all about one of the most beloved chapter book authors: Beverly Cleary.
Mrs. Cleary’s stories are absolutely timeless, and students have loved hearing about her life and her work.
Award-winning author Eric A. Kimmel visited us on Friday, October 26th!

All grades have been spending the first few weeks of library visits getting to know more about Mr. Eric Kimmel and reading as many of his books as possible to prepare for his visit. We can’t wait to meet him!
Second Grade students have started to explore the wonderful world of non-fiction by learning more about the Dewey Decimal System and how it keeps our library shelves organized.
