COVID-19’s Impact on Bit by Bit 2020
Due to the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, it is our responsibility to do our part to help flatten the curve. Therefore, Bit by Bit will not be hosted in person this year and will go completely digital. You can view our official statement on COVID-19 on the homepage of this website or on our social media platforms.
The details below show the updated format of the conference and scheduling of events. As new information arises, we will continue to update the information that follows.
What’s digital Bit by Bit all about?
Calling all tech loving high school girls WORLDWIDE! Are you interested in learning more about what it’s like to be a woman working in the tech world? Do you want to learn new skills in computer science and engineering? Have you been struggling to find opportunities to get technology experience? We have good news! For the first time ever, Bit by Bit is being brought directly to you at home! You will be able to open your laptop, smartphone, or tablet and access all of the incredible resources and experiences you would have been able to access at the in person conference.
How will it work?
The digital conference will aim to recreate the traditional Bit by Bit conference as closely as possible. We will host a few live components (you can view the full schedule below), but all live presentations will be recorded and posted on our conference website after they are held. All other speakers and presenters will record their presentations and answers to questions in advance, and those video recordings will also be posted on the new website. Once the website is released, any girl anywhere will be able to access the site for as long as they would like! We are keeping the digital conference up permanently so that the maximum number of girls around the world will be able to access it.
What will I learn?
Join us at the digital conference to hear from our inspiring keynote speakers: Anne Aaron, Director of Encoding Technologies at Netflix, and Rana el Kaliouby, Co-founder and CEO of Affectiva. You will then be able to hear our panelists answer your questions about computer science in different fields, listen to our mentors talk about their experiences working in tech, get hands on experience with at home tutorial videos provided by our workshop leaders, and learn about future opportunities to pursue computer science. Leave the site with a greater understanding of the tech world, all for free!
