About the Subukia Scholarship fund
The Subukia Scholarship Fund was established by Koigi wa Wamwere soon after his election to the Kenyan parliament in December 2002. The Subukia district is Koigi’s constituency. The great majority of Kenyan schoolchildren do not attend secondary school because their families cannot even begin to afford the annual fees. Contributions to the Subukia Fund will go primarily towards funding a secondary school education for these children, and to expenses directly related to the Subukia Fund. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of both need and merit. The Subukia Fund is structured so as to ensure that a corruption-free channel is established and that all monies go to directly benefit the students concerned. All accounting and monitoring for the Subukia Scholarship Fund are carried out through the offices of Getnick & Getnick, one of the nation’s leading law firms specializing in business integrity and corporate transparency, under the supervision of Neil Getnick, a Dalton parent and the firm’s managing partner.
As the Fund grows, and as our outreach grows, we hope to make an ever greater difference to the children of Kenya. Your contributions to the Fund and your involvement are central to its success. Please give what you can. Any donation that you can afford will help greatly. Checks and any other funds raised through Dalton should be made out the Subukia Scholarship Fund and sent to Dr. Malcolm Fenton at the Dalton School, at ujima@dalton.org.
The Ujima Subukia Fund (USF) is a non-governmental organization (501(c )3). The Ujima Project, a school-based program currently centered largely in the Subukia district of Kenya and here at Dalton, works closely in tandem with the USF. The Ujima Subukia Fund tax ID # is 20-4070158. The USF’s date of incorporation is 12/30/05 and contributions are retroactively deductible to that date. If you have any questions regarding the USF, please contact Meg Scheurer at mscheurer@getnicklaw.com .

Please note that student last names are not published on our website for security and privacy reasons. Full student names and other details are available to Dalton community members from Dr. Malcolm Fenton, Dalton Science Department. The Kenyan school year runs from January to December. The schools are scattered throughout the Subukia district, but Kenya does not have rural mail delivery, and many schools have their post office boxes in Nakuru, which is the largest nearby town.
