Class Information
Here are a few items you may want to make note of:
Planbooks/Homework: Students have already begun receiving homework. They are to write all assignments in their planbooks. Please ask them to show you their planbooks and assignments regularly. If your child has forgotten to write down any assignments or is unsure about a due date, I encourage them to check the “Homework” section of our blog. Learning to manage assignments and time is a huge part of the middle school transition. In the classroom, we do as much as possible to help students figure out what schedule will work best in completing long term assignments, however we cannot always account for after school obligations and family events. In addition to regular math, spelling, and writing skills work, students are to read for 1/2 hour each night and record their reading in their planbook (e.g. Good Book pages 5 – 109). Ms. Noble checks this each morning during house.
Arrival/House: Children are allowed into the room at 7:45am. Morning meeting begins at 8:00 am. If your child arrives after 8:10am and we have taken down the attendance sheet, they will need to check in with Yolanda Ortiz in the 8th Floor office. Please make every effort to bring your child to school on time each day. Students who arrive late miss our morning meeting which includes writing upcoming assignments in their planbooks, getting their planbook checked, reading and discussing the morning poem, reviewing the daily schedule and hearing important announcements. It is also a time of settling in, organizing themselves and greeting their friends. Thank you so much for your assistance.
Absences: If your child will be absent, please send an email to both Ms. Noble (Virginia_Noble@dalton.org) and Yolanda Ortiz (yolanda_ortiz@dalton.org) as soon as possible.
Dismissal/Pick-up: Students are responsible for knowing how they are going home. They must sign in each morning and let the office know who will be picking them up. It is not necessary to send a separate note to Ms. Noble. Students and parents/caregivers should choose a spot outside of the building where they will meet each other at the end of day. If there is a change of plans, call or email Ms. Noble and she will relay the message. One of our 4th grade associates will be on hand each afternoon in order to supervise, ready to help if your child has any questions or trouble.
Afterschool: The ENCORE! coordinator is Jennifer Beasmoney. If you need to send your child to homework club urgently, you may call the MS office or send an email to Jennifer and myself.
Birthdays: We love birthday parties! Birthdays are celebrated during lunch from 11:15-11:45 and parents are invited to join us during this time. Feel free to bring a treat, but make sure it is allergy friendly- no nuts. Students typically bring donuts or cupcakes.
Noble House Blog: Our blog is a great resource for you this year. We will be posting selected work, pictures, information about what we are studying, and links to resources you can browse at home. Feel free to direct interested friends and relatives to the site. Parents and students are encouraged to frequently review the “Homework” section of the blog for assignment and project due dates.
