Dear Rising 7th Grade Student,
Reading is a very important part of your experience at Dalton, and we hope that each of you will become a life-long pleasure reader. Summer is a time for recreational reading, for exploring new books or reading those that you never had time for during the busy school year. Although we hope that you will read voraciously this summer, we request that each of you reads a minimum of two books of your own choosing. You may choose books from the 2015 Recommended Summer Reading for Rising 7th and 8th Grade Students and the Recommended Book Series lists, prepared by Mrs. Feldman, or explore bookstores and libraries for great new titles and classics.
Please read S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders and James Howe’s The Misfits in late August or early September so that you will be able to discuss it during the first week of school. In other words, you should read at least FOUR books over the summer. We will ask that you share your summer reading with us in some form in the fall.
We also highly recommend The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
Sincerely,
7th Grade English Teachers
