The first 3 videos are from our trip to Amsterdam. The 4th video link is from Jurjen’s game night. The last 3 videos are from a store/art opening I attended in The Hague called “El Hema.” The Hema is a Dutch store similar to Target in the U.S., and “El Hema” is an art/design political store which began last year in Amsterdam (the store/exhibit was open for a period of time), and came to The Hague just last night. Here is a link to El Hema Den Haag.

Screen capture of a self portrait Charlotte Salomon

Charlotte Salomon’s collection of 769 gouaches is owned by The Jewish Museum in Amsterdam. Here is a self-portrait from 1940. Salomon’s series is part of a work she called “Life? or Theatre?” It could be called an enhanced or fictionalized autobiography. While Salomon was German, she painted the series in the South of France. Salomon perished in Auschwitz in 1943. Her father and stepmother fled to The Netherlands, and her collection was given to the museum after the war. They donated the entire work to The Jewish Musuem in 1971. Learn more about her by visiting the online collection. There is also a Wikipedia entry about her. Her paintings are beautiful and intimate.
