It’s the time of year to stock up on school supplies — new spiral notebooks, pens, and … a new Web browser. Last week Mozilla, maker of the popular Firefox Web browser, released Firefox Campus Edition for free download.

All New Bloglines Launches in Beta:

Bloglines, the grandfather of web based RSS readers, launched a new beta site this evening at beta.bloglines.com. Like everyone else these days, the most notable new feature is an Ajax customizable home page where users can drag and reorder feeds for a quick view.

According to Bill Scott, Ajax evangelist for Yahoo!, and Karon Weber, principal designer, Yahoo! Teachers started as one of the company’s 24-hour “hack days” that turned into a two-year project. A combination of bookmarklet, archive, and collaboration space for educators, Yahoo Teachers was originally meant to be a research tool for trip planning. The designers soon realized, however, that there was another audience that was hungry for these tools. Their presentation at the recently concluded UX Week on the web application, while still revealing a few rough edges, was an intriguing look at high-tech solutions for the most unglamorous side of teaching: the lesson plan.

To know me today, you’d never imagine how many hundreds of pages a week I read in college. Surprises me, anyhow. While I’ve devolved into an accomplished skimmer of Harper’s and the The New York Times Magazine, I rarely find (or, make) the time to finish a whole book about anything that’s not related to “work.” That’s why I’m intrigued by DailyLit, a service that leverages rather than battles the tendency to hangout online.
