About

Kidview World is a spin-off of Kidview. Kidview contains the book reviews of children in Camille Ehrenberg’s first grade class (also known as House 46) at The Dalton School in New York, NY, and the comments of those who respond to their reviews. Kidview World is a collaboration between House 46 and the children in Year 2 at the Hornsby House School, London England. Both sites provide an opportunity for children to share their feelings, ideas and opinions about books with a community of readers beyond the walls of the classroom. The intent is to engender a dialog among English speaking children residing anywhere in the global community. Participants in this dialogue are exposed to different cultures and ideas. They also discover, as members of a community of readers, that they have something in common – a passion for books.

Publishing reviews about books develops critical thinking skills and writing skills. Children are motivated to produce their best work because they are writing for the world. As the children share responses, they deepen their understanding of and appreciation for literature.

By writing reviews, children learn that their thoughts, opinions and ideas matter. It is an empowering experience. By considering the responses of others, children learn to be respectful of other people’s opinions. They also discover that by being open to the ideas of others, they have an opportunity to learn.

Finally, it is our hope that Kidview World will deepen children’s understanding that reading books, thinking about books and writing about them are valued endeavors. We hope that Kidview World will inspire children to read for pleasure as they read reviews by their peers. Most of all, we hope that Kidview World will help to inspire a life-long love of reading.

Kidview World is hosted by The Dalton School, an independent, coeducational school (kindergarten through 12th grade), located in New York City. For more information about The Dalton School, visit our website at http://www.dalton.org.
