Leonardo the Terrible Monster

Kindergarteners were in for a fun story time with a fabulous Mo Willems’s book, Leonardo the Terrible Monster!

Leo jkt FINAL 1/5

What would you do if you were a monster who just wasn’t scary?  Poor Leonardo learns a lesson in friendship when he tries his best to scare unsuspecting Sam.  Definitely gave us all a laugh and served as a great lead-in to talking about tricks for finding funny books in a library!

Wait! No Paint!

This week 1st graders were in for a real laugh when they heard the story Wait!  No Paint! by Bruce Whatley.

What happens when an illustrator starts interacting with the characters in a classic fairy tale?  Nothing less than chaos!  This book was tons of fun to read, especially after meeting illustrator Paul O. Zelinsky last week.  And it was a great lead-in to our discussion about how to find funny books in the library!

These books are among the many wonderful works of fiction set in New York City, which goes along perfectly with the 2nd grade study of our area.

The Rough-Face Girl

This week 3rd grade students heard The Rough-Face Girl by Rafe Martin.

The Rough-Face Girl

This is a beautiful Native American tale with an important moral:  judge people by their heart, not their appearance.  Students were  mesmerized by the moving story and illustrations.  Definitely a must-read for people of all ages!
