House 43 Digest Online

House 43 Digest Online is a teacher maintained blog that aspires to provide information about curriculum and activities in an integrated way to family and friends of House 43 students. We hope to foster an open exchange of information within the community, and then provide a vehicle through which we can connect to other communities in a meaningful and thoughtful way.

“Striving toward wisdom and putting faith in others,” the tag line to House 43 Digest, is a quote taken from H43’s Classroom Quilt from the 2008-2009 school year. The full motto is here in its entirety.

“In House 43 we believe friendship leads to a peaceful, bright, joyful, courageous community, like a family, where we strive toward wisdom and put faith in others. We believe that we can help each other through responsible, safe and kind actions. We speak freely from our hearts and celebrate the warmth in our souls.”

This motto was created by the children after reading Stone Soup, Zen Ties, The Keeping Quilt, My Dream of Martin Luther King and Aunt Harriet’s Underground Railroad in the Sky. The children created a list of words that describe the community they felt was ideal. Then, in small groups, the children created sentences to describe the community they would like to become this year in House 43. As a class, we revised and edited the sentences to create the heartfelt motto above. These words guide House 43’s social and emotional curriculum and remind us all of the people we know we can be.
