A Strange Day in July by NL
Marco was riding his bike around the lake. He loved the lake, and he came to it every day to ride around and around it. He watched it shimmer and sparkle.
Kayle Marco’s little sister splashed in the lake. Her eyes sparkled as she dived in.
Marco got off his bike and joined Kayle in the lake. They splashed and played together for a while.
All of a sudden a lady stepped out of the trees. She talked in a whisper “skip stones and find magic.” And with that then she disappeared.
Marco and Kayle decided to ignore her. But a couple hours later she came back.
She said, “Skip stones and find magic.”
This time Marco didn’t ignore her. He thought about what she had said and thought about what he should do.
Marco stood up and said, “Lets find stones that are flat and easy to skip in the lake.”
Soon enough they had four flat stones. One was gray, one was brown, one was white, and one was purple.
“Purple a purple stone”, said Kayle “That’s pretty weird.”
Marco skipped one stone into the lake and it skipped right back. He skipped another stone and it skipped right back. He threw with all his might but the third stone came skipping back.
This time Kayle threw the purple stone and it did not come skipping back.
Kayle shouted “Marco!”
Marco looked up. In the middle of the lake there was a carpet. It was red and there were gold trimmings on the sides.
“A carpet!” Said Marco.” This is what we’ve been doing this for a carpet!”
Kayle started to swim towards the middle of the lake heading for the carpet. She was half way there by the time Marco got in.
Together they climbed on to the carpet and waited, and waited and waited.
Kayle said, “Maybe we should say something.” Then Kayle shouted “up.” And the carpet flew up and in to the clouds.
Kayle tried to grab a cloud but it went through her hands and floated away.
“Ahhhhhhh!” Shouted Marco as they zigzagged threw the sky. They went up, down sideways, and they turned. All of a sudden the carpet stopped.
“I think it’s done,” said Marco sickly. But then it zoomed down and landed softly on the ground.
“That was so W-E-I-R-D weird.”
“Yeah,” said Marco. “Where are we, ” said Marco. He looked around.
“It looks like a meadow, ”Kayle said.
The place they had landed had so many flowers! There were roses, sunflowers, tulips, and so many more. There were green trees and lots of animals. Green grass carpeted the ground and there was a stream running down a hill. It was like a perfect universe. The sky was so blue and Marco and Kayle had never seen a place that was as pretty as this.
Marco decided to look around. Kayle started to play with the animals. Marco found a shovel on the ground. Marco loved to dig so he found a nice spot next to a tree and started to dig.
Kayle had gotten a liking to all the animals. Kayle especially a blue baby bird, a white bunny, and a brown and black puppy. There usually were no puppies in places like this but in this place there was one.
There were other animals to like foxes, squirrels, and a bear cub.
Marco was still digging when…he had hit something! He brushed it of and took it out of the ground. It was a box and the box was gold. “Kayle come look at this!” He held out the box showing Kayle.
Kayle ran over to Marco and snatched the box from his hand.
“Hey, ” said Marco trying to grab the box from Kayle’s hands.
“Oh sorry, ” said Kayle she handed Marco the box.
They opened it with great care being careful not to break it. Inside were three objects. The first object was a golden charm bracelet. The bracelet had five charms. They were all shaped as animals and flowers. One was shaped as a rose one as a sunflower. Also there was a bird, puppy, and a bunny.
Marco handed the bracelet to Kayle “you can have it, ” he said. Kayle took the bracelet and thanked him.
The next object was a statue. It was a jade lion. Its eyes glowed like it wanted to say something.
Marco pocketed the lion.
The finale object was a button. Not a coat button a button you press. It was attached to a silver board and the button was red.
Kayle’s hand raced towards the button. But Marco stopped her just in time. “Hey,” said Kayle “why did you do that.”
“Well we don’t know what the button does.” “What if it blows this place up or makes us stay here forever”.
“Well fine,” said Kayle lets go home and try it.
“Can I take the animals with me?” Asked Kayle.
“Only two of them,” replied Marco.
Kayle scooped up the puppy and the baby bird and hugged the bunny good bye.
Marco made sure they had the lion and the bracelet and the box with the button in it.
They mounted the carpet and Kayle shouted “up!” And up they went. On the way there they said nothing and just enjoyed the ride.
Then Kayle asked, “ Can we keep the carpet?”
“I guess so,” said Marco.
All of a sudden they stopped in mid air.
“Here we go, ” Said Marco.
Ahhhhhh!!!!! They shouted and landed softly on the ground.
When they were outside there house Marco said, “lets press the button, ” he pressed the button and… All of a sudden Kayle shouted, “I want a cupcake.”
There was loud POP! All of a sudden a cupcake appeared in Kayle’s hand.
Yum shouted Kayle and ate the cupcake.
“What are you two doing out there?” Shouted their mom from inside the house.
“Oh nothing,” said Marco.
“Good, ” said their mother “because I made some cookies and milk and its getting cold.”
“Oh boy,” said Kayle rushing into the house. “Now we have magic and a place that we can go everyday that’s not the lake!”
Now that Marco and Kayle had the button in the box and the magic place. They could never ever get bored.
Marco followed Kayle in thinking about there strange day in July.
