Subject Area Homework Overview
READING
All fourth graders are expected to read a minimum of 30 minutes per night and note the pages read in their planbooks. Whether the book read is independently selected or a class book will depend on the teacher.
WRITING SKILLS
All fourth graders receive weekly writing skills homework. This includes a spelling assignment (usually, but not always from the workbook) and often an additional assignment such as summarizing an article. Students are expected to practice keyboarding 10-15 minutes several nights per week in order to reach the fourth grade goal of 20 wpm by the end of the year. (Weekly keyboard checks in class monitor this at-home practice.)
LANGUAGE ARTS/SOCIAL STUDIES
Other language arts and social studies homework is assigned by individual house advisors and will vary depending on the interests and pace of the students.
MATH
Math is assigned regularly by each math teacher.
SCIENCE
There are occasional enrichment projects assigned in science
MUSIC
Students are also expected to practice instruments when they have them in music.
