Historical Fiction Unit

Historical Fiction Study

What is Historical Fiction? What constitutes a well-written piece of historical fiction? As a literature connection to our social studies theme of immigration, you will be reading from several choices of stories whose characters experience immigrating to a new country.
We will look for passages that reflect the research the author had to do in order to set the story in a specific historical period. Are there events from history included in the plot? Do the details of the story reflect the period of time that the story took place? Are there historical figures incorporated into the story? We will also look at literary devices that the authors used. Was the book well written with an interesting plot, characters you care about, and descriptive language and literary devices that make the book enjoyable to read? You will decide if the author succeeded and put your proof and conclusions in a form such as a book review or poster.
