Once I get my own blog how do I change my blog password?

  1. On a Mac computer, make sure you are in Finder, and select Connect to Server from the Go menu
  2. For Server Address, type students.dalton.org and then click Connect
  3. Next to Name, enter your username
  4. Then, click on the cog wheel and select Change Password…
  5. Enter your old password once and your new password twice. Then, click on OK. (You may have to wait a minute for the window to close.)
  6. Then, click on Cancel on the “Connect to Server” window.

Your password has been changed.

What if I forget my password?
If you forget your password, ask your teacher or someone from The New Lab (like Craig or Ms. Nickles) for help.

How do I get to my blog?

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Go to blogs.dalton.org/edinger and select your username from the list in Student Blogs. Or, go straight there: blogs.dalton.org/yourusername
  3. When you get to your blog click on Login.
  4. On the next screen enter your username and password.

How do I post on my blog?

  1. Login to your blog.
  2. Click on the Write at the top of the page.
  3. Give your post a Title.
  4. Write your post.
  5. Do “Postit Proofreading” (just like you did in your journals!). That is, do a spelling check and the check for sense, punctuation, spelling (again!), and capitalization.
  6. When you are finished, click on Publish.
  7. To see your post click on View site at the top of the page.
  8. When you are finished click on Logout on your blog homepage.

How do I edit a post on my blog?

  1. Login to your blog.
  2. If you are on your blog’s homepage, click on Site Admin.
  3. If you are not on your blog’s homepage, click on the Manage tab.
  4. Next to your post click on Edit.
  5. Make changes to your post and click on Save.
  6. To see your post click on View site at the top of the page.
  7. When you are finished click on Logout on your blog homepage.

How do I comment on a Dalton classmate’s blog post?

  1. Find a classmate’s blog.
  2. Click on Login and enter your username and password.
  3. Click on View site at the top of the page to read your peer’s posts.
  4. For the post on which you would like to comment, click on the Comments link directly under it.
  5. Scroll down to write your comment in the field. When you are finished, click on Submit Comment.
  6. When you are finished, click on Logout.

How do I scan an image for my blog?

  1. Launch the program Image Capture.
  2. Open the scanner and place your image face down.
  3. In Image Capture, click on the Overview button.
  4. Use your mouse to select the portion you want to scan.
  5. Set the Resolution to 72.
  6. Set the save location to Desktop.
  7. Name your file with your initials or username.
  8. Click on the Scan button.
  9. Open your Student Account, and save your file from the Desktop into your Student Account.

How do I upload an image to a post?

  1. Login to your blog and navigate to your post.
  2. In your post, scroll down to the Upload section and click on the Upload tab.
  3. Click on the Browse button next to File.
  4. Locate and select your image file (from the Desktop or from your Student Account) and then, click on Open.
  5. Click on the Upload button.
  6. After the image uploads, click on Edit next to the image’s filename.
  7. Highlight the image’s URL address with your mouse and copy it for later (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen select Copy).
  8. Then, scroll up to your post’s text and click your mouse in the place you wish your image to appear.
  9. Click on the Insert/Edit Image button (look for the tree). A new window will pop up.
  10. Next to Image URL paste the address you copied earlier (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen select Paste).
  11. Then, click on Insert.
  12. Press Return to move your cursor to the next line to add a caption.
  13. When you are finished uploading your image(s), click on Save.

What information do I provide to comment on another student’s blog?
You may be asked to answer the following questions before you are allowed to make a comment on another student’s blog:

Your Name: use your username
Your Email: use edingerhouse@dalton.org
Your Blog URL or Homepage: your blog address (blogs.dalton.org/username)
Comment: your comments, of course

How do I link to another web site in a blog post?

  1. Login to your blog.
  2. In your post, select the word or words to link.
  3. Click on the Insert/Edit Link button: linkbutton.jpg
  4. In the window that opens, fill out the Link URL with the web site to which you are linking (copying and pasting this address is easier than typing it).
  5. Click on the Insert button.

How do I categorize my post?

  1. Login to your blog and navigate to your post.
  2. Expand the Categories box in the sidebar
  3. Select the category you want and save your post, OR
  4. Type a new category, click the Add button, and then save your post

How do I upload an audio file (podcast) to a post?

  1. Login to your blog and navigate to your post (or start a new one)
  2. In your post, scroll down to the Upload section and click on the Upload tab.
  3. Click on the Browse button next to File.
  4. Locate and select your audio file (from the Desktop or from your Student Account) and then, click on Open.
  5. Click on the Upload button.
  6. After the audio file uploads, click on Edit next to the audio file’s name.
  7. Highlight the audio file’s URL address with your mouse and copy it for later (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen select Copy).
  8. Then, scroll up to Podcasting section and click on Add Media File.
  9. In the Location field, paste the audio file’s URL address (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen select Paste).
  10. Write a Title for your podcast
  11. Scroll up and write an introduction for your podcast
  12. Save your post or Publish if it is ready
