Once I get my own blog how do I change my blog password?

  1. On a Mac computer, make sure you are in Finder, and select Connect to Server from the Go menu
  2. For Server Address, type students.dalton.org and then click Connect
  3. Next to Name, enter your username
  4. Then, click on the cog wheel and select Change Password…
  5. Enter your old password once and your new password twice. Then, click on OK. (You may have to wait a minute for the window to close.)
  6. Then, click on Cancel on the “Connect to Server” window.

Your password has been changed.

What if I forget my password?
If you forget your password, ask your teacher or someone from The New Lab (like Craig or Ms. Nickles) for help.

How do I get to my blog?

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Go to blogs.dalton.org/edinger and select your username from the list in Student Blogs. Or, go straight there: blogs.dalton.org/yourusername
  3. When you get to your blog click on Login.
  4. On the next screen enter your username and password.

How do I post on my blog?

  1. Login to your blog.
  2. Click on Posts at the left of the page and then Add New
  3. Give your post a Title.
  4. Write your post.
  5. Do “Postit Proofreading” (just like you did in your journals!). That is, do a spelling check and the check for sense, punctuation, spelling (again!), and capitalization.
  6. When you are finished, click on Publish.
  7. To see your post click on View Post or Visit Site at the top of the page.
  8. When you are finished click on Logout at the top of the page.

How do I edit a post on my blog?

  1. Login to your blog.
  2. If you are on your blog’s homepage, click on Site Admin.
  3. If you are not on your blog’s homepage, click on the Posts tab.
  4. Roll your mouse over the post and click on Edit.
  5. Make changes to your post and click on Update Post.
  6. To see your post click on View Post or View Site at the top of the page.
  7. When you are finished click on Logout at the top of the page.

How do I comment on a blog post?

  1. Navigate to the blog.
  2. Click on Login and enter your username and password.
  3. For the post on which you would like to comment, click on the Comments link directly under it.
  4. Scroll down to write your comment in the field. Here are some tips for writing great comments.
  5. When you are finished, click on Submit Comment.
  6. Finally, click on Logout.

How do I scan an image for my blog?

  1. On a Mac, launch the program Image Capture.
  2. Open the scanner and place your image face down.
  3. In Image Capture, click on the Overview button.
  4. Use your mouse to select the portion you want to scan.
  5. Set the Resolution to 72.
  6. Set the save location to Desktop.
  7. Name your file with your initials or username.
  8. Click on the Scan button.
  9. Login to FirstClass, open the Edinger House workspace, and save your file from the Desktop into the correct folder.

How do I save a scanned image onto my eeePC?

  1. On your eeePC, login to FirstClass and find your scanned image in the Edinger House workspace
  2. Double-click to open the image and click Save As…
  3. Go to: Home/User
  4. Go to: My Documents
  5. Go to: My Office
  6. Click Save

How do I upload an image to a post?

  1. Login to your blog and navigate to your post.
  2. VERY IMPORTANT: Click your mouse into the place you wish your image to appear.
  3. Click on the Add Media button.
  4. Click on Select Files.
  5. Go into: My Documents
  6. Go into: My Office
  7. Select the image and click OK.
  8. Scroll down and click on the Insert into post button.
  9. Resize the image.
  10. Press Return to move your cursor to the next line to add a caption.
  11. When you are finished uploading your image(s), click to Save your post.
  12. TIP: Don’t use your backspace button to move your mouse cursor around your post or you might delete your image.

What information do I provide to comment on another student’s blog?
You may be asked to answer the following questions before you are allowed to make a comment on another student’s blog:

Your Name: use your username
Your Email: use edingerhouse@dalton.org
Your Blog URL or Homepage: your blog address (blogs.dalton.org/username)
Comment: your comments, of course

How do I link to another web site from a blog post?

  1. Login to your blog.
  2. In your post, select the word or words to link.
  3. Click on the Insert/Edit Link button: linkbutton.jpg
  4. In the window that opens, fill out the Link URL with the web site to which you are linking (copying and pasting this address is easier than typing it).
  5. Click on the Insert button.

How do I categorize my post?

  1. Login to your blog and navigate to your post.
  2. Find the Categories box in the sidebar
  3. Select the category you want and save your post, OR
  4. To create a new category, click the Add New Category button, add your new category, and finally, save your post.

How do I record an audio file (podcast) in Garageband?

  1. On a Mac, open GarageBand
  2. Click Create New Podcast Episode
  3. Provide a file title, set the save location to Desktop, and click Create
  4. Select either Male or Female Voice track
  5. Click on the Track Info Button (”i”) and raise the Recording Level to 85%
  6. To start recording click the round red record button
  7. To stop recording click the round red record button
  8. Rewind and click play to review your recording
  9. To re-record, first delete your old recording (click on the track and press delete)
  10. When you are finished, go to the Share menu and select Export Song to Disk
  11. VERY IMPORTANT: Next to Compress Using, choose MP3 Encoder and click Export (your file should save onto the Desktop)

How do I upload an audio file (podcast) to a post?

  1. Login to your blog and navigate to your post (or start a new one)
  2. VERY IMPORTANT: Click your mouse into the place you wish your image to appear.
  3. Click on the Add Media button.
  4. Click on Select Files
  5. Click on Desktop, select your audio file, and click Select
  6. Click on Upload
  7. After the audio file has uploaded, click Insert into Post
  8. Save or Publish when your post is ready
