Bon voyage to Blogical Minds!

Ms. Edinger and I have been looking for other student blogs for you to visit, and we found Blogical Minds from a fifth grade class in Georgia, USA.

1. Visit one of the of the student blogs at Blogical Minds.
2. While you are there, take notes about it in a MS word document. Can you answer these questions?

  • About what are they writing?
  • What kinds of things are you learning from their posts?
  • What are some examples of good writing and why?
  • In what ways is this student using their blog? Are these ways similar or different to how you use your blog right now?

Here are the notes we took this morning:

a post about current events, news
she asks a question at the end of the post
she added a picture

I learned that there are different ways to blog – you can learn from your mistakes on a blog
I learned a helpful safety tip from the animated “Awesome Owl”

a post to persuade people in the community not to cut down the trees to save the environment

3. Comment on a student’s blog post–see the post below for helpful ways to start a comment. You may get an idea from your notes, too.
4. Now return to this blog post and comment here so we can share what we learned. Use your notes and report on the most important thing you learned about blogging today. Remember to link to the blog that you visited.
(You may also post your comment on your blog.)

  • This morning, we visited Victoria’s Dreams of Wonder, and there we saw that she had written posts on a variety of topics. She wrote about a current event, and she wrote about saving the environment. I also learned that wearing Heelys can be dangerous from an “Awesome Owl.” The most important thing I learned was to think more about the many possibilities of blogging.

  • I went to “Emmy’s Corner” and she did lots of different things such as, animations, lots of links and podcasts, and interviews, and even transcrits. I think that the most imporant thing that she wrote about was when she wrote about what she thinks that the school could do. I thought that the was important because it made me thing of all the things that my school could do and that made me interested.

  • I went to jonny’s news and learned that blogging helps you learn new word so that when I blog I will be on the lookout. You can also share
your opinion and help causes that you think need helped. bloging is great!

  • I went to Johnny’s news (a kid Johnny’s blogs). Johnny gives information (news) of every sort. He interviewed Allen Freeman, Jim Flowers, and Roger Bruce. Johnny has information about a lot of things and everything is about a different subject. Johnny should be a news caster.

  • This morning I was on the blog Eddies rainbow of thoughts. He wrote about his dag Muffin and the story about him. Another thing he wrote about was something about Giant animals that used to live in africa. Like other kids blogs he wrote about the snow and that there was to much of it. I disagree. Thats what I saw on Eddies rainbow of thoughts.

  • I read a post called Mia’s hall of fame. Mia wrote about Dr.Suess and why he wrote The Cat in The Hat. And she wrote about how she loves peace, and how she thinks she should have P.E. everyday because it would be better for their health and so they are not so lazy.

  • I went and visited Mia’s hall of fame in Georgia. She was interested in The Cat in the Hat because she wrote a pretty long blog post on it. Everyone in the class wrote about blogging in a way that you would write if you were brainstorming for a story. I was surprised that they all were writing a post with animation. Mia was writing about how she was getting to much homework. I think she will keep writing about interesting things.

  • I visited two blogs. Rosalinda and Lindsey’s blog. Rosalinda had posts about a dinasour that was found out. It had 3 horns. She also wrote about how she thinks of herself. She wrote poem about it. Lindsey was a girl who wrote about A new kind of coin that just had come out. It was worth one dollar. Also, she wrote about what she thinks blogging is. She made a tree like thing and every part had about what blogging is. She also made a little square with funny little animations. She even made songs. The blog I went to was definately different then mine.

  • I visited Eddie’s blog, he made a really cool “Wacky Web Tales”, that was awesome! It is where you chouse a tale and then there is a page where you have to fill in blanks. Then you click “see your wacky web tale” and he has a story that used your words and the words of the original story. Also I learned some extra things to use my blog for, like reflecting on things I did in class.

  • I learned that Heelys are dangerous if you wear them with wheels . Emma did a lot of interviews with a lot of her teachers, Ms. A, B and C. She tells a lot about her blog. Emma does a lot of pod casts.

  • I visited Anni’s free mind blog today and she covered alot of topics. She mentioned everything from giant squids to idioms. Well, I think people all over the world should visit her blog if they want to find out what is going on in the world.

  • I went on Johnnys News and it a pod cast about having both milk and water. He also had a pod cast with a man who works with the board of Regents.

  • Anni’s blog is very creative and it covers a lot of stuff, for example pollution kills polar bears, she likes blogging and geometry, etc.
