Today we visited two major imperial sites from the feudal China: the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace.
It was really cold and windy at the Summer Palace, but the scenery was spectacular. Did you know that the chief eunuch at the end of Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) had a monthly meal allowance of 66,000 Renminbi (around $9,650.00) for his personal use?
At the Forbidden City (built from 1406 to 1420), we visited many impressive halls and learned about many interesting imperial customs. The size of this complex of imperial residences and offices was just amazing. Did you know that there are still more than 970 surviving buildings with more than 8700 rooms?
Dalton students experienced a rare treat to spend an entire day with students at Tsinghua High School, one of the top high schools in China. Each student was paired with a local student and accompanied them to all their classes and activities. They even participated in morning exercises on the playing field. Can you find the Dalton students in the video below?
In order to foster exchanges between our students and the seventh graders at The Dandelion School, a math teacher from their school took the initiative to teach our students how to use the abacus. Do you know how to use the abacus? After watching the video below, did you learn how to use it?
On our second visit to The Dandelion School, a school for migrant children, we were much more prepared to face the challenges of teaching English to groups of seventh graders.
