Welcome to Seventh Grade English!

Welcome to Ms. Dawson’s Seventh Grade!
I hope you all had a restorative and productive summer. I’m looking forward to getting to know you all and to having a great year. Before we launch into the summer reading, I wanted to outline a few guidelines and expectations of the class.

The binder is a key component to our literature and language studies. All grammar, vocabulary, class notes, literature log entries (to be explained later), and homework assignments are to be kept in your binder. The format I expect you to follow is on the web page. I will be checking your binders periodically. If you need help following the binder guidelines and maintaining and ordering your notes and assignments, please see me as soon as possible for help. After each literature unit you will be handing in the entire contents of that binder section along with your final essay or project.

We will be exploring many engaging and thought-provoking texts this year. Enjoy!

FIRST ASSIGNMENT: BOOK TALK!! Due Tuesday September 15

Prepare a 3 minute book talk for tomorrow. Choose one of the books you read over the summer, excluding THE OUTSIDERS.
Tell a bit about the main idea of the book without giving away the ending. State the genre, the author, the setting and the main characters. Discuss your favorite character or part and make a recommendation as to the kind of reader who might appreciate your selection. Bring a visual that enhances or explains your book.
