Final Alice

My teacher read Alice in Wonderland. I thought it was amazing.

Everyone got a chapter and a partner. We started by looking at the book. We made a couple of scripts before we got it right. Then we started drawing ideas for the characters we were going to use for our comic. We split up the charters so that we did what we were good at. Then we scanned them in and started Comic Life. It was fun project! You can see it here.

Alice in Wonderland 1

Well we’ve been doing the study of Alice in Wonderland. It was originally made in London in the 1800’s. He was telling it to 3 girls one day when he saw a rabbit go by.  And the littlest of the 3 girls Alice liked it so much. She asked him to write it down  for her.  The man’s name was Lewis Carroll and he was a math teacher for Oxford University.

Alice was a good book but had no plot.  But it was a good read.

I learned that Alice in Wonderland is a story that is very old. And I learned that not all books have to have a plot.

Now we have to make a comic Alice. So I have to work with c18sb to do the croquet ground chapter into a comic. It’s pretty hard.

So if you have not read the book I suggest you should.

Jacqueline Wilson

Jacqueline Wilson came to are school. She talked about when she younger her teacher made her feel terrible by saying her writing was horrible.

One day when she was a teenager she was looking for a job in the newspaper. She saw that said teenager writers wanted.

So she moved to Scotland at age 17 and stayed with the other girl writers and at first had to sleep in the linen closet. All the other girls tried to be her friend so they could go in with her because the linen closet was the warmest place and sometimes lots of girls would squeeze in and the smaller girls went on the shelves.

So she got in touch with them and they asked her for beauty tips or fashion tips or romantic mushy short stories. But  instead she sent them a funny story about a girl who had no date for prom. (Because she said to us that she had hard times writing romantic mushy stories period).

So a few days later she heard from the magazine and they loved it and it made them laugh. So she started to write lots of short stories. And soon got paid.

So thats what she talked about so from that stage she became a famous writer.

She has wonderful books so read one.

My Amistad Poem

We learned about Amistad. And how there on the ship. Taken from there home town Africa and brought to America. To be sold.

But on this ship it went different. They got control of the ship and in the day they sailed towards Africa and at night they sailed towards America. So the sailer’s finally got they to America. But they got back to Africa in the end true story. You should look it up to learn more.

Here is a poem I wrote about it.

They told me

Once

You went through the door

Of no return

They told me

That you never came back

They told me

That but they were wrong

After being on a ship

Week

After

Week

Then

We

Got control of the ship

At night

The sailors

Tried

To sail us to America

In the day

We tried

To get back

To Africa

But

For that

We lost

We went to America

Back in

Africa

They

Told me

Everyone

Was white

In America

They told me

There was snow

That was white

They told me

Almost everything there

Was white

And for that

They were right

So we stayed in

America

Week

After

Week

Trying to win

This case

Because

That judge

Decided

The rest

Of our lives

And for that

We won

Now I

Could

Go

Home to

Africa

No more

White snow

And

White faces

Only

my color in Africa

Now

I could go home

to my real home

Africa

Where before

They

Told me

All wrong

Because I

Did come back to

Africa

My Post on Forced Immgration

Sirra Leone is located in west Africa. It was a main port for slaves.Very few returned once they went through the door of no return. People who did not want to come had no choice they were just forced on a ship and had to become a slave.

African’s were forced onto a ship and shackled to the ship. They did not have enough food. Some people died of  illness because it was not treated right. They were treated like cargo and mistreated. The journey was very hard even for other people. They were kept in a hold and only got to go out for about an hour. Some were able to go home like in the amistad.

But even though when they went to the new country the Gullah people still able to keep some of there culture. Because when it got very hot the owners left them. So they were able to make baskets, fishnets, tell storys, skills and tools. But still they were there only because they were taken against there will and having too leave there familys.

My Cinderella Story

Once upon a time in a faraway land there lived a beautiful girl who was smart, funny, and wonderful in every way. Her hair was as brown as dark chocolate and curly beyond thought. One day her mother became very ill and died.

A little while later, her father remarried a woman who appeared to be nice but no sooner was the wedding over did she put her new stepdaughter to work. While her lazy stepsisters sat around and did nothing Victoria worked from 5am in the morning to 9 o’clock at night. And when all her work was done, she had to sleep in the garden.

With every day she grew more beautiful inside and out. And with every day her stepsisters grew more jealous of her.

Victoria’s only friends were the animals. There was a horse called Dark Chocolate.

One day, as she tried to fall asleep, a strange voice said, “Go and run away, go straight through the woods to the big house.”

Victoria jumped up in surprised and asked, “Who are you?”

The strange voice only said, “You will find out soon enough my child. Go run while you still have a chance.”

She did as the voice told her because it was true she had to run away while she had a chance. What did she have to loose? So she ran away. She ran through the woods all night until morning. All night long she ran through mud piles, climbed over fallen trees, and anything you could imagine. She was covered in dirt and her hair had twigs in it from the trees.

She continued until she found a big white mansion but now she had begun to walk.

She was about to knock on the door when a guard said, “Who are you?”

She jumped up not knowing anyone was there.

I’m Rosy,” she lied, “and I ran away from home because my stepmother forced me to sleep in the garden and do all the work.”

So what are you doing here?” the guard asked.

She thought for a moment about what would get her into the castle faster. She said, “I came here to become a servant.”

Very well,” the guard said. “I’ll bring you to the cook to see what you can do.”

She was led into the mansion’s back door for the servants by the guard. The palace was beautiful with long white halls and pictures of everyone who ever ruled.

Rosy followed the guard into the kitchen where the cook asked if she could cook and Rosy said, “I can make delicious soup!”

Let’s see what you have. Make the best soup you can.”

Rosy made the best soup she could and when the cook tried it she was amazed by how good it was. It contained just the right amount of salt. For once in her life she had nothing bad to say about the soup.

Okay you are in charge of making all soup,” the cook finally said. “Now start another soup for the king.”

I won’t let you down,” Victoria said quickly so she could get to work.

Two years passed and she made soup for everyone in the royal family. Everyone loved her soup and they would not have soup from anyone else in the kingdom.

In the kingdom, Rosy lived in a small room by the kitchen and every night she wondered who the person who told her to run away was. It was her neighbor she just didn’t know.

One day, she heard there was going to be a ball and everyone, even the maids, was going to be there. Rosy wanted to go but she had nothing to wear. When everyone left she just laid on her bed crying and then she heard a voice. It was the same voice she had heard that told her to run away.

Now can you tell me who you are?” she asked.

Now I can tell you who I am,” he replied. “Remember that horse Dark Chocolate? I’m him!”

She was so stunned and replied, “Horses can’t talk!”

Well I’m your fairy godfather in the form of a horse,” he replied. “If you want to get to the ball you better hurry up!”

Rosy looked down and asked, “What about my clothes?”

Oh dear. I almost forgot,” he replied. and with a shake of his mane she had the most beautiful dress as gold as the sun with the most beautiful jewelry in the land and pretty glass slippers.

Now off to the ball but be back at midnight or everything will turn back to normal!”

She promised to be back on time.

When Rosy got to the ball everyone was wondering who was this beautiful maiden and when the prince saw her he made his way through the crowd to ask her to dance. She agreed and the prince asked who she was but Rosy only said, “I can not tell you.” The prince would not let anyone else dance with the beautiful maiden who had stolen his heart.

When it was time to eat she sat down with the prince at his table. She was having such a great time that she forgot she had to leave. When the prince turned around to talk to a duke she slipped away. He asked if anyone saw a girl dressed as a princess but they said only a maiden had left.

She ran around to the back, and used the back door and climbed up to her bedroom. That’s when she notice that her glass slipper was still the same even though her dress had turned back to normal. She must’ve lost the other one when she ran.

Back at the ball the prince ran down the stairs and tripped on a glass slipper. He thought about the girl’s slipper all night and would not let go of it. Then he got an idea! He would try the slipper on everyone in the kingdom.

The first day he tried it on the ladies but no such luck. The second day he tried it on maids then finally he got to Victoria but when they said it fits they all said it had to be wrong, that it could not have been one of the maids. But the prince said, “I will keep my word and marry this maid. I know it is her because I will never forget her smile.” Then Victoria pulled out of her pocket the matching shoe and all of a sudden her clothes turned into another even more beautiful dress.

So Victoria and the prince were married and every day after she was done with all the duties that come with being a queen she made soup for herself and the prince and the royal family.

Everyone in this far away land said that they were so fair. Victoria would treat the maids very nicely as though they were family. And the prince made the rules so fair and they all lived happily ever after.

Princess For Hire

I loved the book Princess For Hire it was really good. It was about a normal girl and if she had a chance to become a princess in one second her answer would be YES! Or even for a couple of days. She gets a chance to pretend to be a princess while the real princess is some where else. She gets in some trouble with the other agents but if you want to no more read it.

Haiti Earthquake

As you probably know, on January 12th, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital. Haiti was already a poor country, so damage to a city that lacks technology and support is all the more devastating. Additionally, the country is still recovering from landslides from a 2005 hurricane that flooded the town of Gonaives. Now, Haitians must recover from both disasters. Immediate needs include health care, money, food, water, shelter, and supplies. This has been difficult to provide since people were cut off from transportation and aide because docks and airports were reduced to rubble. Fortunately, the whole world is coming together in support of disaster relief. Haitians are people who don’t have that much and really need our help now more than ever.

When I first heard of the earthquake I felt bad and I wanted too help. So when my class had a hot chocolate sale for Haiti I volunteered to help. We made about $240.00. I was so happy that we made so much. Now a lot of people are helping in my class in my school in the world. But only one good thing came out of it for me. That the whole world is coming together to help.

I hope every one wants to help as much as I do. If you do put those thoughts to action to help because they really do need are help more then ever.
