Elizabeth Alexander
On Friday February 9, Elizabeth Alexander came to our school to talk to us about poetry. She told us she was inspired to write about the Amistad when she was walking down the New Haven Greene and she started to think about who had been here 200 years ago. I thought it was really amazing that the whole book America Sublime was one epic poem. It was one of the most amazing times of my life!

This is a great start, but you need to add some additional details to your post. If you’d like to focus on the Amistad poems, you might want to look at the poems (the book is in your classroom) and add a few details about which ones in particular stand out to you, and why. Otherwise, pick one of the other topics we brainstormed in class and add a few sentences about that, Also, Ms. Alexander’s visit was on February 6, 2009.
