My Cinderella Story

In class we have been studying Cinderella so we wrote cindy stories of our own, here’s mine!

Ann of the Ashes

Hi! I’m Ann, and Edward, the cutest, coolest, and sweetest guy in 91st St. High likes me! This is how it happened.

When I was a little baby living with my mom and dad in a tiny apartment my dad went on a business trip and he didn’t come back. He left my mom without a job or enough money to pay for my baby food and she didn’t know what to do so she made a really hard decision either she would sell the apartment for money and live with me out on the street, or she would put me in a foster home. Obviously if I could speak I would of told her that I would much rather be with her and live on the street than be separated from her but I couldn’t so she went with the foster home idea.

A week later she took out her old cradle woven from straw and grass, put in a few fluffy pillows in, and under them she put the ring that was passed down from her great, great Grandmother to her great Grandmother to her Grandmother who had given it to her, she also put a picture of her that had a note on the back of it under the pillow.

Early the next morning while I was still asleep she tucked me into the cradle, wrote my name on a piece of paper, taped that on, and took me to the foster home.

She put me on the doorstep, knocked three times on the door and left her little Ann behind.

A woman named Maria came to the door and took me into a beautiful room with a crystal chandelier hanging up and 10 kids eating dinner at a long table, the Maria turned to the oldest girl in the room and told her that she would take care of me because she herself did not want to care for another baby.

The girl took me upstairs into a room and set my cradle down, she knew that she couldn’t have a real conversation with me but she told me her name, it was Jenny. I grew up in that little room and Jenny taught me every thing she knew, she was like a sister to me and when I was with her I could never be picked on (when I wasn’t with her Alison the bully would pick on me and the others would join in).

When I was about to start sixth grade Jenny went to college and everything changed. All of the other girls in the foster home started tripping, pushing, kicking, and punching me and I was the youngest and weakest so I couldn’t fight back. Worst of all Maria didn’t even care. The children started making fibs that I was hurting them so she sent me to sleep near the ashes. Every night I would take out the picture of my mom and pretend she was right there with me. I still didn’t know about the ring or the note. One night the cradle fell and the ring fell out so I put it on and the picture landed upside down, I saw the writing on the back and started to read:

Dear Ann,

I cant be there to see you grow but you will always be in my heart. I’m so sorry I had to put you in a foster home.

The letter told me all about my dad, and almost everything that happened when I was a baby was the first time I had felt like someone loved me since Jenny had left and now I knew that my mom had loved me.

Just then Maria called, “Ash girl… get over here.” And I was back to the life without love.

A couple years later when I was in high school a boy named Edward moved in around the corner. He became the coolest guy in the school. One day he announced he was having a dance at his place and every one was invited. I was really excited then I remembered I didn’t have a dress. The night of the dance I decided to ask one of the girls in the foster home if they could lend me a dress she said no, a dirty little bug like you would mess up even the messiest dress in the world. I went up to my room and cried because of the dance, because of my mother and because I wouldn’t have a chance to dance with Edward.

Just then I heard a poof and a very strange looking woman appeared out of nowhere! For a couple seconds I couldn’t breath but I finally found the courage to ask her, “Who are you?” “I am your fairy godmother,” she answered “and I am here to get you to the dance!” I was speechless but she went on. Now she was holding up the cutest dresses I’d ever seen. She picked out three and asked me which outfit I wanted to wear.

The first outfit was a yellow short dress with black leggings and golden ballet flats, the second outfit was a pink ball gown, and the third was hair extensions.“I don’t think hair extensions will be enough, and pink just isn’t my color,” I paused “but the first outfit with the yellow dress and the ballet flats, that’s perfect!” I put it on and looked in the mirror and though this might be a little selfish it looked beautiful on me.The old lady said, “Okay it’s time to zap you to the dance,” she paused. You have to be back by midnight. Just as she was about to zap me to the dance I screamed, “WAIT! I need to get my mother’s ring.” I ran to the table, put the ring on and my fairy godmother zapped me to the doors of the dance!

When I walked in everybody was staring at me, I was really embarrassed and even more embarrassed when Edward walked up to me and asked me if I wanted to dance, of course I said yes.We danced and danced but when I looked at the clock it was 11:30 I would have just enough time to catch a cab and get home. I tore away from Edward and ran out the door. When I got into the cab I realized that my mother’s ring was no longer on my finger.

The next day at lunch I heard Edward was looking for the person who he had danced with the night before and to test that she was that girl you would have to try on a ring, if it fit he would know you were the one.

I knew it was my ring and not only did I want him to know that I was the one he had so much fun with, I also wanted my ring back.

I went to his classroom right away! When I got there I saw a long, long, long, long line of girls but reluctantly I took my place at the end of the line.

After waiting for half an hour I got to the front, I took the ring in my hands and slipped it on. It fit perfectly! Edward stood up in disbelief and at that moment I heard a loud POOF. My fairy godmother appeared out of nowhere, she smiled at me and I whispered to her put me in the dress. And she zapped me into the short yellow dress with leggings and ballet flats!

Edward smiled and thats when it happened! He asked me to a movie and dinner!

That’s the end of this story but for me it’s just the beginning of a whole new one!
