A Good Book Of Historical Fiction

I read a book called The King Of Mulberry Street by Donna Jo Napoli. It is a good book because it has a some real stories, and some real names. It also described real places. The book has some sentences and words but the book always translations the Italian. All of that makes the book seem plain boring but it also describes everything with most of the human senses. The main character meats new friends to. It is all about three kids trying to live in America. The kids make a business with sandwiches. the book always describe how it smells and how they get people to buy it. Lastly they describe hoe horrible it is when one friend dies and he uses to kill him. The pain is what it describes. In the end it is the snow that saves the day. The white wet snow.

The Story Of The Survivors

I just read the most amazing story about Margru Kinson. The story I read was written by my teacher Monica Edinger. The story of Margru is a story about freedom. How kids can fight and make a difference. I personally like how her dad sacrifices her and never gets her back. It is a very intense part of the book. I also enjoy the all the slaves point of view. Especially because in the story she thinks of the kidnappers as white ghosts. The story my teacher made is historical-fiction. most of is was true but for example, we didn’t know what she was thinking unless she told us. I’m guessing that most of that we didn’t know. Also some of the things she said. It is a very good and educational story.
I hope one day it will become a published book.

Coming To Dalton

Elizabeth Alexander came to my school, Dalton, on February 6, 2009. She came to our school because she wanted to explain how she wrote and how she worked so carefully on her poems. She told us that some took years to write.

Elizabeth is very interested in her history. She writes a lot about Amistad and slavery. She decided to do that on a walk in New Haven.

She also wrote a book of poetry called Miss Crandall’s School For Young Ladies & Little Misses Of Color. It is about a school that Ms. Crandles owned that was an only white kids school. Then, one little lady who was African American had enough money to go the school. Ms.Crandles let her in.

That decision was a very big. All of the white childrens parents pulled tham out of her school. It then became an only black school. The people of that time were very mean. They poinsoned there water and killed the schools cat. They even set the school on fire. Then ms.crandles had to close the chool.

I really liked that she wrote poetry about that. It lets kids learn the art of poetry and a great story.

Elizabith alexander was really nice and creative with words.

My School Play Oliver

On Thursday, January 29, 2009, my school, Dalton, had a middle school play. It was called Oliver. I really liked the acting of Bill, but I particularly liked Oliver’s singing. It was so funny because they had to talk in English accents. The only thing that bothered me is that Oliver was played by a girl. I know Oliver had to have a high voice, but she could have at least had a wig. Other wise the play was great.

The 09 Inauguration

On 1/20/09 president Barack Obama had his inauguration. One of the things at the inauguration was the entertainment, specifically the singing by Aretha Franklin. Aretha sang My Country ‘Tis Of Thee in front of the whole country. Doing that takes a lot of courage and a great voice. When I was watching, I saw the crowd go nuts the second she was finished.

I thought that was the best presidential inauguration I’ve ever seen, mostly because it’s the only one I’ve seen. I know it will go down in history. For the next 4 years I think there will definitely be a change in the world. I hope that president Obama will help the tree’s and help the economy.  Barack isn’t the only one who can help this environment and this country. Hopefully we will all help too.

Writing

In late 2008 I, c17sh, made a book about LR. I made this book in school. It is about LR immigrating to America.I made the book because my class and I were doing this for an oral history project. It took a lot of hard work for both of us. For LR it took the plane, and the chill when she got off. For me, I had to interview her, transcribe every word she said, highlight the parts I wanted in the final book, plan the typing, the pictures, and the intro & dedication, make a mock/up of the final book, glue it, and draw the pictures. All in all it was a pretty hard process, but in the end I think it all paid off!

Blogs

I just checked out one of the blogs that my teacher, Ms.Edinger, class posted last year. The things that she/he wrote about are so interesting and helpful, especially if you’re in my class. She talked about what she did last year like Wizard of Oz, Alice in wonder land, Cinderella, emigrating to the bigger school, and lots more! I really like oz oz oz; (the title of when he/she wrote the Wizard of Oz) because I think it’s really funny.
