An Assassination 10 years ago

A story of war

Not too long ago in the mist of war during a cease fire there was a private named Arkes. 20 years old, tall and skinny, Arkes favorite possession was a medal of honor that his father gave to him before he died.  Arkes’s father was the most famous general ever to live.

There were five other solders that lived in Arkes’s bunker they were also 20 years old. there names were Dan, Mark, Bill, John and the letter of the group name is Jack. All five of the other solders were at the rank of corporal and they were all tall, strong and really jealous of Arkes because of the meddle of honer. They were so mean because Arkes had the meddle of honor that his father gave to him because when Arkes’s father was a kid he was in the army to and he had received the meddle of honor because he was one of the people that saved the general of that time from an assassin.

Jack and the gang treated Arkes like a slave.  They hit him, tripped him and made him sleep on the floor.  one normal day in war (most don’t consider war a normal day but these people do) the cease fire ended. Arkes wanted to fight for his country but the other five did not. So they got into a long hatefully fight.

“Why cant I fight,” yelled Arkes “you’re going!”

“Because you’re just a little private and a ##%%#!!!” said Jack in a nasty way. Then Arkes threw a punch at jack and it nailed Jack in the face. Jack went stumbling backward and he fell to the floor with a slam. Jack got up and was about to hit Arkes when the alarm sounded. All six of them ran out the door and they saw about fifty enemy solders invading the camp soon they were in combat fighting the enemy solders about a half an hour later the enemy solders were dead. After everyone left Jack turned to Arkes, Arkes felt fear freezing his body. Jack slammed Arkes in the face. Arkes shrieked in pain and fell to the ground and just lay there in pain. Jack and his gang walked right by him without a glance and went into their bunker.

The next day Arkes sat in bed still half asleep. He got out of bed and walked outside to the dining hall to get breakfast. When he got to the dining hall he saw Jack and the gang stuffing there faces. He walked to sit at an empty table. When he was eating he thought, “Is today inspection day? Well luckily my part of the bunker is clean.”

After breakfast Arkes when back to the bunker when he walked in he saw the inspector looking like he had fire in his eyes he said, “YOU DIDN’T CLEAN YOUR AREA!”

“WHAT!” exclaimed Arkes, “Yes I did I did it yesterday!!!”

“Well I will have to mark you unclean next time IT BETTER BE CLEAN,” hissed The Inspector

   “ But sir…”

“ NO BUTS you didn’t clean your part of the bunker” snarled The Inspector

After The Inspector left it came to Arkeses mind

   “ JACK.”

“ I should have known he did it. I mean he is always trying to ruin my day” thought Arkes

Just then Jack and his gang walked in.

“ How did you like our little surprise,” sneered Jack.

“ I Knew you did it,” said Arkes

“ Oh no you ruined the surprise,” Jack said in a sarcastic way. Jack walked by Arkes and lay down on his bed even though it was only after breakfast Jack and his gang went to sleep.

One hour later Jack and his gang woke up to the sound of the meeting bell. Arkes, Jack and his gang walked to the meeting room and sat down. The general walked out and said, “MEN the time has come for one solder below the rank of Seargent to go to the rank of Sargent no mater how much lower he is. Now to go to the rank of Seargent you will have to complete a series of test like shooting and defense and so on and so forth now this event will happen on the next cease fire. Now you are dismissed.”

While Arkes, Jack and his gang walked home Jack kept bragging about how he would win and how he was the best and all that. When we got back to the bunker he sat down and started reading some kind of book on weapons. But I walked outside and started doing push up because I knew that if I actually practiced I could win.

The next day the general announced that another ceasefire had started and that we could do the contest TODAY AT 12pm. Arkes looked at his watch and it was 11:00am. I ran back to my bunker to find Jack and  his gang sleeping like pigs on their beds. I tiptoed past them and went to my bed. I picked up a rifle and a bottle of water. I ran to the Inspector’s tent and asked if I could practice at the target range.

“ Fine but be back by the contest,” said the inspector.

     “Yes sir.”

Arkes ran down to the target range and found an empty target and started shooting. Too his surprise he got 8 out of 10 shoots on the bullseye!!! He tried again 7 out of 10!!! He tried AGAIN 8 out of 10 shoots!!! He kept on doing it again and again. When he caught a glance of his watch IT WAS 11:55am. Arkes grabbed hiss gun and ran to the training house (where they were doing the contest).

Arkes ran to the sign up sheet and walked into the room where he was unsurprised to see Jack and his gang first in line for the shooting compaction. There would be three different parts of the compaction shooting, athletic then survival. Jack grabbed his gun from the rack, he cocked his gun and fired. He missed the target entirely and hit the wall. He cocked again and fired. This time he hit the window and it shattered and glass fell everywhere. He was disqualified from shooting. When it was Arkes’s turn he got 8 out of 10 shoots in the bullseye.

Next was athletic part of the contest and of course Jack was first. Jack tried to jump over a little wall but his foot hit the wall and he fell flat on his face. He got up and cursed under his breath he tried again the same thing happened. after he had tied about a million times he just gave up. When it was Arks’s turn he did everything perfect except the flip but who does?

Now it was the final test SURVIVLE!!!

And of course Jack was first AGAIN. Jack tried to make a fire but he accidentally caught the tent on fire and was disqualified Again. He walked out the door and threw a rock at the training house!!!

After about 40 solders went up it was finally Arkes’s turn. he did everything almost perfect!!! About 20 minuets later They announced the winner.

“AND THE WINER IS…” said the speaker, “ARKES PERONZO!!!!!”

Arkes was speechless. There was nothing in the world he could say.

“WILL ARKES PERONZO PLEASE COME TO THE BIG HOUSE,” said the speaker.

Arks stood up and walked like nothing had happened just to look like he was  solder not a little kid who just got a toy or something. When Arkes got to the big house they handed him a Sargent meddle and said, “Congratulations Arkes! You’re a great soldier and…”

2 HOURS LATER…

“Good job now run back to you bunker. DISMISSED.”

When Arkes got back he didn’t see Jack or any of the guys??? Then he saw a note that said

 Dear Arkes,

We found out what Jack and his little group had been doing to you and we sent them to a military academy elsewhere so now you have the bunker all to yourself.

Sincerely,

The general

Arkes couldn’t believe it!!! So he just sat down on the bed and thought, “Well I will sleep good tonight.”

Amastad poems

My class and I all made a poem about the Amistad. Everybody was inspired by Elizabeth Alexanders poems of the Amistad. I made a poem about remembering Africa after they were taken aboard the ship. My poem is about Cinque.

The King of Mulberry Street and Historical Fiction Books

Me and my class had to read a Historical Fiction book for school. I chose a book called The King of Mulberry street. The book is about a boy who is very poor and lives in Italy he has to get on a bout to go to America for money and a better life. Here are three reasons that this is a good Historical Fiction book (1) It uses Jewish words and customs (2) It uses real places and real dates (3) includes very good dialog. Those are the main reasons it is great historical fiction book. I recommend it.

The Margru Story

The Margru Story by Monica Edinger is about a girl named Margru who was born in Mendeland. She was taken away from Africa on a slave ship when she was nine. One of the most vivid parts was when her father pawned her for a reason no one knows. she became a slave for the Cubans. When she was on the cargo ship going to Cuba the African Americans captured the ship and tried to go home but they were tricked by the Cubans and came to America. The Americans set them free and sent them home. After they got home margru had to go back to America to attend collage. After she finished collage she went back to Africa for good.

The Play OLIVER

On January 29 2009 me and my class went to the see the musical Oliver! My class went to see it at our own school DALTON!!! The play was very good and the actors were very good. The play starts in a town right outside of London. The play is about a boy named Oliver. Oliver starts out as in orphan in an orphanage and he is treated vary badly. After Oliver gets sold to a terrible family he escapes and runs to London. In London he goes to a gang of kids that pickpocket and steal food to survive. If you want to know the the rest you will have to see the play or the movie. I thought the play was not really about Oliver but more about the people around him.

The Inauguration of President Obama

On January 20 2009 President elect Barack Obama was Inaugurated at the Capitol Building in Washington DC. Close to the beginning of the ceremony all the past Presidents that are still alive came and stood before everyone. But none of them spoke. The crowd at the Inauguration was HUGE. It had over a million people.

Personally I really wanted Kennedy to speak at the ceremony but he didn’t. I really hope President Obama stops the war in Iraq and I hope he helps the Economy go back up too. I think Obama will be a great President for America

oral history

My class had to interview someone that emigrated from a different country. I interviewed Mr. Kunwar.  I know Mr. Kunwar because he as my third grade teacher. After the interview I transcribed it onto paper, then I typed up the transcription on the computer. Next
I printed out the transcription and cut it up into parts, pasted them into a blank book, drew the pictures and the cover. Later I presented the book to my parents and class.
