I interviewed Melissa, my babysitter. She immigrated from Trinidad, because she wanted to be with more family, although she left her parents behind. Melissa has a green card, and she plans to get citizenship in Oct. 2009. She is now a babysitter of me and my little sister, and has one child of her own. She still talks with her mom a lot, and travels, and her mom travels here. Melissa’s uncle works at Big Dalton.

The process of making the book is really long; you have to interview the immigrant on a tape recorder, transcribe that, cut and paste it into a dummy book, then cut and paste the words into your book, make an introduction, and dedication, and last but not least illustrate!!! Also, you can bring food from where the person you interviewed is from. In my case, my babysitter made Trinidadian curry chicken. There are so many different kinds of Curry Chicken, but the kind my babysitter made was yellow and had lots of spices! It was great.
