Our New President, Barack Obama

On January 20, 2009 Barack Obama became our new president. At the inauguration, in his speech, you can tell that he is the right choice for a president. I noticed that repeating back the oath was a bit of trouble at first. Roberts made a few mistakes saying the poem to Obama, so Obama wasn’t really all that sure what  he should say. Our classroom thought that that happened because he was so focused on his speech that when he was talking, he had to get it off his mind. When Elizabeth Alexander read her poem we noticed that she paused long for people to think about what she said.

I liked the poem because you can tell that she made the poem, special for the inauguration, because it said things about farmers, and people that are different, just like Obama. Obama is different from the other presidents not just because he is African-American, but also his beliefs. I think that it is great that he has been elected because he has made, and we have made a change to the United States of America. Martin Luther King jr. would have been so glad to see this day.

  1. This is a wonderful post! It is clear you thought about the ceremony and planned your paragraphs well. Nice work!

One small note: We now know it was in fact Chief Justice Roberts, and not President Obama, who made a mistake while giving the oath.

  2. O.K. I’ll change that.
