Since my last post, we have been writing a script for our Alice comic. Like I said in my last post I’m doing the chapter “Pig and Pepper” to where (just to tell you I’m repeating what I said in my last post) Alice finds a house. Then a fish footman comes out of the forest….who cares, I’ll just show you the draft. Here it is:
Rough Draft
For a minute or two Alice stood looking at the house, and wondering what to do next. (Alice staring at the house)
Then suddenly a fish footman came running out of the forest.
(FF running out of the forest)
And knocked on the door. (FF knocking)
Another footman opened the door, but this time it was a frog. (FF1 opening door)
“From the Queen. Invitation for the Duchess to play croquet.” The fish footman said. (FF talking)
Alice went in to the house and led right to a large kitchen. She discovered the duchess over a cauldron putting massive amount of pepper in the cauldron while holding a baby. (Duchess with cauldron holding a baby)
“There’s certainly to much pepper in that soup!” Alice said to her self. (Alice talking)
Then Alice saw a cat with a grin ear to ear. It was the Cheshire Cat!
(Cheshire Cat)
“Why does your cat grin like that?” Alice asked. (Alice asking)
“It’s a Cheshire Cat that’s why. Pig!” The duchess said. (Duchess replying)
“I didn’t know cats could grin!” Alice said. (Alice talking)
“You don’t know much and that’s a fact.” The Duchess replied. (Duchess insulting her)
The Duchess starting singing a harsh lullaby to her child: “Speak roughly to your little boy, and beat him when he sneezes, he only does it to annoy, because he knows it teases.” (Duchess singing)
Alice takes the baby, for the duchess was very rough with it. She runs out the door, and to her surprise baby turns in to a pig! (Alice holding a pig running out the door)
“If you are going to turn in to a pig, my dear then I have nothing to do with you!” Alice said while dropping the pig.
Then she was started by seeing the Cheshire Cat a few yards in the distant. (Alice looking)
She went up to the cat and asked “Which way I ought to go from here?” (Alice talking to CC)
“In that direction.” The Cheshire cat said.(CC talking)
“But I don’t want to go among mad people” Alice said.
“You can’t help that. Everyone’s mad here. Your mad. I’m mad. Everyone’s mad.” The Cheshire Cat said. (CC talking)
Then slowly the cat disappeared.
These are the steps to do the comics that we are doing. Some we have started but not finished. I will write down on those.
* We listed the little parts (that show it best) that we wanted from the big chapter, Done
* We wrote down the parts in a large form (that would be the part labeled rough draft and ends at the cat slowly disappeared. Done
*We are drawing for our comic.
See you next Thursday.
We read Alice in Wonderland By Lewis Carrol (other wise know as Charles Dodgson) we learned about the author and we learned about Alice Liddell. We learned about why he wrote Alice in Wonderland. We watched movies about Alice and and movies from those about those times
We also read along with Ms. Edinger in different illistrated Alice in Wonderland. I found out that a lot of poeple like to illistrat them.
We are now make in comics about each chapter. My chapter is Pig and Pepper where the babe turns into a pig and Alice meets the Chesire Cat.
Edinger House studied forced immigration in January and February 2008. We did it by going on the web, hearing our teacher talk to us, reading books, and watching movies. Why did Forced Immigration happen? Because the people that forced them to do the jobs did not want to do the jobs them selves, also, if they selling slaves gave them money. I REALLY LIKED STUDING FORCED IMMIGRATION!
I think you would really need to read the 1st one Dealing with Dragons before you read this Searching for Dragons, still the book is really cool. I like how a you can listen to a different person thoughts.
When I stared reading this book it was boring in the beginning but I like all the other sisters Grimm books so in the end I like this one.
SILVER, GOLD, AND BRONZE
Once upon a time there was a girl named Star Dust. She was thin, with straight silver hair, lighter skin and deep blue eyes. She was the most beautiful girl you had ever seen, not mentioning how nice she was. She had once upon a time lived with her father and her mother, but her mom died.
Her father remarried soon after; now she had two stepsisters. Her father went to a city. He died there.
Star Dust’s stepsisters hated her; well, they were just really jealous of her. So they worked her day and night!
“Dust, come pull the weeds!” her stepsister Lioloc screamed.
“Dust, you forgot to polish my vase!” her other stepsister yelled.
Her stepmother bellowed “Dust, clean the house!” They even found a way to make fun of her name; “Dust” they called her. She was so dirty it suited her, so that’s what they called her.
One morning when was sewing a dress there was a knock on the door. It was the Royal Knock though, “Da da da da da, da da!”
All at once her sisters ran to the door. It looked like they were playing Leap Frog! Whoever got to the door first would see who was there. If Lioloc had not pushed Star Dust out of the way there would be chaos, chaos I tell you!
Star Dust heard whoever it was say, “Prince and ball.” And she knew the words meant mayhem.
The next few weeks were packed with work. Not only did she have to clean the house, but also she had to make the dresses, try them on the girls, do their hair, take off the dresses and help the girls by practicing their lines for Prince Mark III AND MORE!
It was the night before the ball! Star Dust’s stepsisters did not make her clean around the house. She just had to help her stepmother and stepsisters get in their dresses, get their hair done, practice their lines one more time, put their makeup on, finally get the bracelets and necklaces on them and send them to the ball.
Now Star Dust wanted to go too, but what her stepsisters said was true. She had no dress and no way to get there. She started to cry (I don’t blame her. That’s what I would do.). She was looking down with shame because she did not want her (dead) parents to see her like this.
Suddenly a bronze light shimmered out of the sky and the voice of her father said, “Do not be afraid, you will get your wish.” And the most beautiful silver dress came out of the sky with a pair of matching silver ballet flats.
She screamed long, loud, and clear,“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
(“OW! LOWER THE VOLUME UP THERE I’M TRYING TO READ, ABOUT YOU! I’m the narrator anyway!”)
But she still put it on and was the most beautiful girl you have ever seen (Not like she was not before).
She asked the voice that was like her Dad’s, “How can I get there?” The voice said she should not worry, but just sit back and enjoy the ride. At those words she had the most wonderful feeling. She could feel the wind blowing her hair around. Her silver hair was just as beautiful as the night sky itself.
One second she was in the night sky, flying. Then it was over and she was at the palace.
At last she heard the voice say, “I will take back my stuff at midnight. Come back before that. I will take you home.” She walked up those long, long stairs. When she finally got to the top she started descending the staircase in the ball hall. At the first step she took into the room, everybody looked up at her. Star Dust thought something was wrong with her! Was she more ugly than before? Had her dress fallen off!?! She noticed that the prince was wearing gold. They were two peas in a pod, gold and silver, two ones were going to be a two!
Was this good? She had no idea. Soon though she was in his arms and circling around the room. She had never noticed how handsome the prince was. He had blonde-ish hair, lighter skin, and always wore gold. If her stepsisters saw her, what would they do to her? It was so much fun, but they were the only ones on the floor! She was happy when she saw the wave of other dresses around the room.
The time was passing at the speed of light. Then she thought, just slow down, have a good time. Oh, but she could not! She was so worried that she lost spot of the time. It was very close to 12:00. She ran out of the room faster than she ever ran! The Prince followed her. She partly ran and partly fell, down the stairs. Her slipper had fallen off. What could she do? She could not go back and so she decided to leave it.
The prince went after her out and said, “I don’t even know your name.”
Star Dust felt bad for him. Then she remembered why she was running home! She was late. (She was just that kind of person.).
A little while later she was home. She sat by the fire and warmed herself up. Soon her stepsisters were home with her stepmom. They were all tired, so it was a good time to ask how the ball was.
Her stepsister said, “It was fun. There was this princess who the prince liked, but she ran away at 12:00. Strange, right?”
“Yes,” Star Dust said.
“Now stop talking to us, so we can get our beauty sleep!” her stepsisters said.
Why did they hate her so? She didn’t do anything to them. Did she? Was she a horrible girl? (If I was there I would tell her she wasn’t, but I’m just telling the story.)
The next day all the girls (Which is surprising that they let Star Dust come along, but it was to carry the bags) and their mom or stepmom, went to get a letter that the prince had written himself. It said:
All young and old, will you please be open for me, the prince to come to your house, beginning Saturday morning. I lost the one whom I love at the ball last night, but she has left a slipper. Will you please try it on? The girl it fits shall wed me the next morn! (And some other princely things.)
Now this was both very bad, and very good. Her stepsisters would work her day and night, but she would find and get married to the love of her dreams!
On Saturday all the family (all except for Star Dust, who was working) stayed on the sofa. (They went to sleep there too) The next day they took turns watching while the others got dressed.
At night he came! The prince was here! Although the stepsisters locked Star Dust in that dirty attic she listened through the floorboards to the screams and laughter. She picked the lock and went downstairs. Her stepsisters begged her not to try on the slipper. She wanted to listen to them (she was a good person) but she loved the prince. She tried on the slipper. It fit! They looked into each other’s eyes and fell in L-O-V-E, love!
The next morning they had the biggest wedding in the world! Star Dust (which was now to be her name) was wearing a beautiful silver dress, and prince Mark III was wearing gold. Her father (who was watching from above) was wearing bronze!
Newbery winner Laura Amy Schlitz wrote a book called Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Our class has a subject called Literary Salon and our teacher had the idea of reading the book and podcasting it, well that’s what you’re going to listen to in about a minuet. She gave us each a monologue that was from the book. My monologue is about Barbary, The Mud Slinger. The podcast is about that she has to brothers that go to the market… Well I don’t want to give away too much.
You might want turn on the volume a little of loud.
I got the authors name from Candlewick Press – Catolog .
I wrote a poem about Margru Kingston who was a girl that traveled on the Amistad, she is on the boat at the time and reviewing what has happened in her head.
It says Something Must Change
I thought never to be separated from my mom, dad, sisters, and brothers.
This is my home where I can think about all my problems.
This is home where all the trees, that give off the food in witch I eat.
But all is different now I am not where I should be.
I’ve never seen such a place witch such harsh people.
I am not where I belong.
I am sad though, when I blink my eyes I see my family doing what I want to do sitting down and being with each other.
I wish I could get one more hug, one more kiss before I had to go.
But I can’t.
There must be something good, something happy, leading up to this.
Something I can’t wait till something-something….
My teacher, Ms.Edinger, wrote a book about Margru, who was a girl that traveled on the Amistad, a boat that slaves were carried on. I was reading an online book (that was about her). The story was great; the only thing was it was a bit sad-but my teacher couldn’t change; that it’s a true story! Well partly true-based on a true story. (What, it would be hard to find out exactly what she was thinking.) The book is in the form of poetry and just regular words. At kind of the end-ish part she gets a Christian name that is Sarah Margru Kingston. It’s a really cool story, I think you should read it!
