Where The Wild Things Are-Movie

Where the Wild Things Are is a movie that is hard to figure out the age group that the movie would be made for. There are some adult situations that go on, and mild language. The book is made for any age group, but mostly 0-5, in the movie it’s definitely made for an older audience. This movie is too violent and sad for 0-5, even though they still might like it. They probably grew up read the book, now the movie isn’t what their parent’s would like them to see.

I personally liked this movie even though if I had made it I would have some changes. My favorite part of the book, when Max’s(the main character) room get transformed into a forest. This does not take place in the movie. In the book they say ‘Max made mischief of only one kind’ and in the movie, it’s much worse than that. He bits his mother, starts a snowball fight with his sister’s friends, runs away from home, stands on the table, breaks things, and lets snow in the house, (there is much more) and, for me, that’s not mischief of only one kind.

For those who grew up loving this book, I don’t recommend seeing the movie. Unless you are expecting the movie to be nothing like the book, which in most movies’ is the case. For those who have not read the book, you also may not want to watch the movie, for you may get the wrong idea about the book.

I’ve heard on many radio, and television broadcasts that they movie was horrible, and that you cannot make a movie out of a short children’s book. People made a movie, and it wasn’t that good. The broadcaster’s opinion was right.

This was the sort of movie that I don’t really care about. It just doesn’t catch my interest. Sorry. I think that maybe some people would enjoy this movie, one could be you. So if you think you still want to go see it, see it. I’m not going to stop you, you might like it. Or not.

Overall this movie is 50/50, so it’s your choice to see it or not.

  1. Good review, very interesting to read your point of view. I think you and the others you mention make a good point when you say it’s difficult to make a movie out of a short children’s book – this is the same issue that many other book-to-screen adaptations have faced, The Grinch being one that springs to mind.

(ps – I think you’ll find that the books says he makes “mischief of one kind and another” – so the film could be right there – although I enevr imagined him being terribly violent or destructive!)

  2. Good review – it’s great to read your thoughts! I also love the scene when Max’s room is transformed, and I’m quite disappointed to hear that’s been taken out of the movie. I grew up loving the book, and love it even more now that I’m older (age 30); your review helps confirm my decision not to see the movie. I just love the book too much to feel good about seeing it changed around in a movie.

  3. Thank you for making a bookmark to my blog. It really means a lot to me. I like my layout to but to be truthful, all of the other BookBloggers have the same(almost). And also because you like my blog layout do you think I should change my banner*?
