review of forced immigration

In the beginning of 2008 we studied Forced Immigration.  I thought it was sad how Europeans just came and stole people from Africa and then basically tortured them.  I felt really bad for them.  I also learned a lot about Cinque.  He was on a slave ship called the Amistad. He fought to get his freedom. I really liked learning about forced immigration.

my Cindy Story [Pizzarella]

Pizzarella

Once there was a pizza maker named Ray who had a pizza store also named Rays. He had a mustache, was 33 years old and was really kind to everyone. He made the best pizza in New York. It had the best cheese. It was made the freshest also because he planted his own vegetables. Even though his restaurant was very tiny (it only had 3 tables) the store always had new pizza.

He had two competitors who were jealous so they used Ray’s name so people would think they tasted the same. So one, who had a very big store, called himself Ray’s Famous Pizza, but everyone hated his pizza. The other called his store New York Ray’s and it was also terrible. The fake Rays (named Pablo and Poncho) were both brothers hated the real Ray

One day all three got an invitation to the cook off. It said,
“Be at the annual cook off tomorrow 8:00 sharp if you win you got a new pizza store and a life supply of ingredients”.

He was really excited because he just made a new pizza that had onions, broccoli, sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, and a 7-cheese blend. He went to the other stores. They both said that they were going to win because they have a better store. They told him to get out of their stores.

He was on his way to the cook off in his car but then he remembered he forgot his ingredients. He pulled over and saw one of his best customers that owned a taco store. He asked to borrow his ingredients. His customer said
“Yes but bring it back before nine o’clock.”
So he used his customer’s ingredients to make his own Ingredients.

The judge said go and they started cooking first tomato sauce then the special cheese and then pepperoni and sausage then onion and mushroom and chicken and broccoli. Finally everyone was done. First they tried Ray’s famous pizza. They threw up. Then Rays New York pizza. They threw up. Finally they tried rays. They loved it so much they ate the whole thing in five seconds. The judge said,
“I love your pizza so much you win”.
He was just about to give him the key when it was
nine o’clock. He ran out as fast as he could. He ran so fast his hat flew off.

He heard the next day that they were going to every Rays in New York to see who the hat fit. Before he knew it he heared chains outside. His competitors were locking him inside. They knew it was his hat and they didn’t want him to win the store and ingredients. He had nothing to do but scream. He said, “Let me out let me out” he was stuck when he heard a car pull up. It was the judges with the hat. Then a women came out the oven it was a fairy crust mother. She said “are you stuck” ray said “yes” “I’ll let you out then” she took cheese and shot it at the door it was not powerful enough she said she needed rays 7 cheese blend she took it shot it at the door. It broke right open just when the judges were leaving. Ray screamed,
“Wait.”
He tried the hat on and it was a perfect fit he one every thing and got so rich and bought a mansion and lived with his fairy crust mother. And lived happily ever after. And his competitors their stores got over run by rats and they both had to share rays old store. The end

Why I hate the Movie Bridge To Terabithia

I do not like the movie Bridge To Terabithia. One I think It changes what is happening way to much. I think It is like way to much other movies and is a bad idea. I also thought it had horrible special effects.

 http://blog.mousekingdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/12/terabithia.jpg

I do not get how in the beginning it is a bad place and at the end it is a good place.
I also think it goes along way to fast.  If you ask me I give it a 1 out of 10.

Sarah Margru Kinson [Cinque]

For school I read Sarah Margru Kinson. I liked it because it is a good example of what they did to slaves and how badly they were treated.

Margru was one of the people that was with Cinque on the Amistad.I thought my teacher [Ms. Edinger] used good language and described everything well. I like the parts where it gets happy because most of it is sad.

margru.jpg

There is a long story. First she is in Africa and Margru’s dad trades her for food because they are so hungry. They bring her to Cuba and sell her. The people that bought her got her a fake passport because it is illegal to steal slaves from Africa. Then Margru escapes, and she goes to jail. Margru goes to court to free herself. And she wins and goes back to Africa.

NOLA

This is a my 3rd grade buddy talking about his good relationship with him and his New Orleans buddy

I was happy when I found out that I was going to have a New Orleans buddy because it was like having a new friend. My buddy said it would be cool to have a buddy in Little Dalton New York. I thought it would be cool to learn what it would be like to live in New Orleans. The kids in New Orleans are making a tree nursery for southern bald cypress trees. They are doing this because industrial buildings and oil tanks are destroying the wetlands. I think this is good that there doing this. I have learned that me and my buddy like a lot of the same things, even though we live in 2 different cities 1,200 miles apart. He likes football I like football, he likes playing video games I like playing video games, he has a sister I have a brother, he also told me he likes Star Wars, his favorite football team is the Saints my 3rd favorite team is the Saints. We have a lot in common. We have a lot in common he is very nice. I think this is a good experience for both of us.

The Tempest

Last Thursday at The Dalton School we saw the Tempest play by Shakespeare. I thought it was good but confusing because I did not really get when they fell on the island because of the tempest. I also thought it was confusing because two different things were happening at the same time. I did not like it that much.

The Journal of Wong Ming-Chung

In school I read the journal of Wong Ming-Chung. It is about a Chinese kid who immigrates from China for the California Gold Rush. I thought it was good because it is not just telling you information it is actually a story. But it is not all fake it has a lot of real information like it was actually really hard to find gold. I learned a lot of things like that Americans would bully the Chinese immigrants. The writer uses good language like when it is snowing and they are catching the snow in theirs mouth they say, “it is like a bird begging for food.” It was really good and I think you should read it.

My Oral History Project

I made a book about my dad who immigrated from Sierra Leone, in west Africa. First I interviewed him, then I then I hand wrote it, then I typed it on my alphasmart. Then checked on a laptop, and put it in a book dummy, reprinted it and put it in my book, and then drew the pictures it was hard. He immigrated here from Sierra Leone because he got married to a lady that was from America so they moved to New York.
