The whole 4th grade from the Dalton School was just on an overnight trip to Plymouth, MA for 2 days. We went because we are studying the Pilgrims.
Our bus left NYC at 8:04 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2008. We arrived in Plymouth, MA in front of the Mayflower II at 1:30 PM. We then went on a walk to see the original settlement. Our first stop was the Plymouth Rock but unfortunately the building was under construction so we couldn’t see it. So we walked up Leyden St to Burial Hill where the Pilgrims are buried and where their fort was. Leyden was the town in Holland where they moved. As we walked, we saw the sites of houses of the Billington’s, the Bradford’s, and the Fuller’s. We walked up Burial Hill and visited the graves of the Pilgrims such as William Bradford.
Then we walked back to the Mayflower II. It is an almost exact replica of the Mayflower. We met people who pretending to be Mayflower passengers. It is hard to imagine that 102 people were on this boat but it was crowded for us to!
Then we took the bus to the Plantation. We went to the Wampanoag village and helped make a canoe. Then we went to the craft center and saw women making a sail for the Mayflower II and making pottery. Then we had a dinner. Then we had various activities like trying to figure out who lived in a house, playing Pilgrim games, writing with a quill pen, and dressing up as Pilgrims. The next day we went to the gift shop and the 1627 Pilgrim Village. We met Love Brewster and helped him make firewood. We also went to the fort and saw cannons. Finally, we had a pizza and cookie lunch and boarded the buses back to New York City the trip back was from 1:30
PM to 4:50. It was my favorite trip so far this year!

This is a drawing that is part of Mourt’s Relation which is probably written by William Bradford and Edward Winslow. Mourt is probably someone who was part of the Merchant Adventures. My drawing is describing the Cape Cod Bay so I drew a map of the area. I drew the states so you have a feeling of how far away Plymouth is from where Boston was settled and where New Amsterdam (Now New York) is. There is a direct quote from Mourt’s Relation in the ocean. If you look at my very first post on the bottom, you will know that c15mb1 also did the same thing last year. There post is linked here. My class annotated a section of Mourt’s Relation on our class blog. Enjoy!
