In class we have been reading Ms.Edinger’s book on Sarah Margru Kinson. It is extremely sad! Margru is a girl who is givein away by her father to a slave trader. She is one of the only slaves, (with the other ones on the Amistad) to ever go to America and come back to Africa, and then back to America, AGAIN!!!!!!!!
My favorite part in the story was definitely the end, when they come home. It sums up the entire story. I think that Ms.Edinger used a lot of good words in this story. Some examples are: Listless, bloated (p3), sobbed, trembled, despaired (p5), dark, airless, heaving (p6), filth (p7), and so on and so forth. I think that these are some of the best words in the book: gentle, soothing, vexed, comforting, and afraid. (This is all on page 11.)In this book there are some pictures. Ms.Edinger herself draws many!!!!!! The other pictures were taken by her, too.The most interesting and surprising part in the book is when the Africans attack the Americans on the Amistad. That part is scary and exciting all in one. I was hoping that the Africans won.One more thing that I think Ms.Edinger could have added was more about Margru’s name, which means Black Snake! I don’t know anyone who would name his or her child that! Keep Reading!!!!! This is the poem I wrote about the story. Read it when it comes out!!!!! It is called At Sea.

sb,
Thanks for this excellent post. I loved reading it, especially the parts where you highlighted some of the vocabulary I used. I have to say I love the word “vexed.” They still used it in Sierra Leone when I lived there as a synonym for “angry.”
As for her name, I do plan on trying to add in more about it when I revise the book this summer.
Thanks again for a terrific post.

I totally love the word vexed too!!! I think that it really shows how she feels in the story. Good Luck With Margru!!!!!
