Umbrella Summer by Lisa Graff
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! It was actually a funny thing that happened. I had a new, juicy Barnes and Noble gift card that I was ready to use. So I went down there and purchased a whole bunch of really good books. But as I was leaving, I saw this book. And I read the back and it sounded like the best book ever!!!! But I had used up my card, so I had to wait until my next birthday. But not anymore, because Ms. Edinger gave it to me to read last week!!! And it was, as I predicted, the best book ever. Umbrella Summer is a book about a little girl named Annie. Annie used to be a really fun, outgoing girl, but when Annie’s brother, Jared dies, Annie opens her umbrella of sadness and protection. She starts wearing a helmet in the car and riding her bike down the hill, stops eating hotdogs and doing obstacle courses, some of her favorite things. It takes a sweet old lady, an interesting book (and two not interesting ones) to convince Annie, that maybe she can start to close her umbrella of unhappiness and go out into the sunshine. Altogether this was a great book and I loved it and everybody in the world should read it!!!
