Wizard of Oz: Difference between movie and book

Well, now is the wizard of oz. We have learned all about it and have watched the movie. But you should read the book first because then you understand the movie better. For example the Winged monkeys never come to save Dorothy. I like the movie because you can see whats going on a little better. Also I love We’re Off to See the Wizard song. Sometimes I’ll just start singing it, and personally, it is probably my favorite after Somewhere over the Rainbow. The biggest difference is probably how I thought the yellow brick was a lot different then the movie. In the movie it looks painted, and it doesn’t look real. But, the book is still the American classic.

OMG!!!! c16kd blog finale!!!

Well, snif snif, this is it. c16kd blog finale! We have learned so much with these baby blogs. But snif snif, THEY WILL BE SHUT DOWN!!! This is so sad that all our skills scanning and image placing and linking will all be gone. If any teachers are out there, I ask you to do blogs with your class. It is really fun, knowing you don’t have to say what your class thinks but what you think. Like my class might say that they love the color brown and you can say you hate it. It gives you your own voice, and usually it is heard. So just think a little about that. Well, GOOD-BYE LOVELY BLOG WORLD!!!

Interview with me

My little buddy interviewed me about my transition from little Dalton to big Dalton. They did use the same questions as we did in the fall doing our oral history. But the thing is she’s changed them to fit our “immigration” to the Middle School. Here’s the interview:

all about alice: FINALE

We have officially finished our comics about Alice from Alice in Wonderland. We wrote comics about them on comic life, and we have finished. Done done done done!!!! Here is a link to it:

 http://blogs.dalton.org/edinger/projects/alice-2008-6-pig-and-pepper/  .

And if you click here, you will see other comics. Our comic as grew up like a baby to a grown-up. I will miss it yelling “I need more pictures!” or “This makes no sense!”. Here are links to its life cycle:

  • 1 (Being born)
  • 2 (Toddler)
  • 3 (Older kid)
  • 4 (Teenager)
  • 5 (This post/adult)

After we had a Alice in Wonderland tea party. There was yummy food, and tasty drinks.  It was on the second floor, basically in the middle of the school! It was fun, but I didn’t get a turn to pin the smile on the Cheshire Cat! This Alice unit was tons of fun!

Amelia’s itchy-twichy lovey-dovey summer at Camp Mosquito

This book is about a girl named Amelia. She goes to camp with her best friend Carly, who wants to do the camp newspaper. She kind of wants to do it, but only the comics. So she gets to the comic section, and works on it with this boy named Luke. She likes Luke, and so does Carly. So she and Carly start to fight over him. They both get mad and stop talking to each other. Then when the dance comes, guess who Luke asks? READ IT TO FIND OUT!!! :) :D :) :D

Alice in wonderland: stage 4

Now me and uw are now on stage 4. We have started our comic, and it’s going well. We have done the title page, and 1 comic. We learned how to do millions of things with comic life, like how to change fonts in captions, how to do captions, and how to fill in colors. OUR COMIC IS TURNING OUT GREAT!!!:) :) :) :) :D :D :D (smiles)

A letter from Plimoth Plantation

All of us have to make a character that was NOT on the Mayflower, so we had to combine names together to make our characters. My pilgrim’s name is Alice Charlotte White, and she has a sister named Catherine, a mother named Elizabeth, and a father named Henry. (Pssst!! Don’t tell anyone that he actually dies on the journey.) She left her best friend Sarah behind, and she is writing a letter to her. Here is the letter:

Dear Sarah,

I write you from my new home with my toes freezing and my hands shivering. This new place is not like London. There are no shops, no housing, and no food prepared. Thy are so lucky. Thy is probably sitting in your bed, nice and warm. I am hungry and cold. There is no food! We had to grow our food and make our houses. You would love it here. You enjoy adventuring and wondering. I am scared to death, and the Billington boys are being so annoying. Guess what one did on the Mayflower? He set off squibs were there was gun powder, and it was so scary. The Billington boys just drive me crazy. The houses are tiny! We are all cramped up, and you know how Catherine “needs” her own space. We all miss you so much. We wish more then ever that you were here. The Native children don’t speak English. We met to that speak English, Squanto and Samoset. They said that my hair is very colorful and pretty.

Miss you more then the sun and earth,

Alice Charlotte White

Alice and wonderland: stage 3

Here are the things we have been doing:

We (as in uw and me) have the chapter “Pig and Pepper”. We have done lots of pictures and are fixing and doing the final edits on our script.

This is Alice:

This is the duchess:

And this is the Cheshire Cat:

We chose our scenes by reading the book and deciding which  ones are important. The scenes are the Duchess’s house, her running to the Cheshire Cat, and the forest.  We have getting really far, and soon we will be on Comic Life!!! AHHHH!!!!!!!!

alice in wonderland: stage 2

Now we have finished our script, and we started to draw the things in the comic. To write the text we had to get a book and read the chapter we have. Then we had to pull text out to form our script. It was hard! Right now I’m drawing Alice. Here is the script of c16uw’s and my comic.

For a minute or two Alice stood looking at the house, and wondering what to do next. (Alice staring at the house)
Then suddenly a fish footman came running out of the forest.
(FF running out of the forest)

And knocked on the door. (FF knocking)

Another footman opened the door, but this time it was a frog. (FF1 opening door)

From the Queen. Invitation for the Duchess to play croquet. The fish footman said. (FF talking)

Alice went in to the house and led right to a large kitchen. She discovered the duchess over a cauldron putting large amount of pepper in the cauldron while holding a baby. (Duchess with cauldron holding a baby)

“There’s certainly to much pepper in that soup!” Alice said to her self. (Alice talking)

Then Alice saw a cat with a grin ear to ear. It was the Chesire Cat!
(Chesire Cat)

“Why does your cat grin like that?” Alice asked. (Alice asking)

“It’s a Chesire Cat that’s why. Pig!” The duchess said. (Duchess saying back)

“I didn’t know cats could grin!” Alice said. (Alice talking)

“You don’t know much and that’s a fact.” The Duchess replied. (Duchess insulting her)

The Duchess starting singing a harsh lullaby to her child: “Speak roughly to your little boy, and beat him when he sneezes, he only does it to annoy, because he knows it teases.” (Duchess singing)

Alice takes the baby, for the duchess was very rough with it. She runs out the door, and to her suprise baby turns in to a pig! (Alice holding a pig running out the door)

“If you are going to turn in to a pig, my dear then I have nothing to do with you!” Alice said while dropping the pig.

Then she was starled by seeing the Chesire Cat a few yards in the distant. (Alice looking)

She went up to the cat and asked “Which way I ought to go from here?” (Alice talking to CC)

“In that direction.” The Chesire cat said.(CC talking)

“But I don’t want to go among mad people!” Alice said.

“You can’t help that. Everyone’s mad here. Your mad. I’m mad. Everyone’s mad.” The Chesire Cat said. (CC talking)

Then slowly the cat disappeared.

Summary of Forced Immigration

Forced Immigration

Our Forced Immigration unit was all about slavery and what the slaves went through. It was very interesting. We learned about Sierra Leon, the African Burial Ground, a slave’s life, and much much more. We learned by watching movies, reading books, and surfing the web. At the African Burial Ground we looked at all the signs slaves made— like a swirl means journey. There were symbols for everything! A guest also came in from Sierra Leone and talked about it. We really studied a lot about forced immigration!
