My Final Blog Post :(

This is my final blog post. And yes, I am quitting blogging (and no, this is not like the April Fools Post).

I think more teachers should do this!! It’s really fun and a great way to show the world your students work, or your work.  I am trying to convince you teachers out there to start getting your students blogs if you haven’t figured out yet.

I really hope I get to do this next year! (Wink wink.)

Alice in Blogland!!:Final Stage

This is my last Alice in Blogland!! post.  My comic is done and we showed it off last Friday at the Tea Party.  I baked some “Eat Me” cookie and I dressed up as the Chesire Cat.  To see my comic, click here.  My chapter is “Advice From a Caterpillar”, Chapter 5.  I remember when I did my first Alice in Blogland!! post, to see it click here. After a long process, I finally finished.  I am proud of my work and after you check it out let me know what you think by commenting.  It was hard, but this Alice unit was tons of fun.  Thanks for reading!

The All American Girl by Meg Cabot

Hey! This week, for homework we have to write a blog post about a book we just read. I just read The All American Girl by Meg Cabot.  It’s about this girl, Sam (Samantha) and she saves the president’s life by jumping on this guy who tries to kill him.  The president’s son is in her art class.  I really recommend this book!

Alice in Blogland!!:Stage Four

Hey! So hows it? (How is it going?) I’m fine. Now enough of that blabbing, the show must go on! Last Tuesday, we started Comic Life. Comic Life is a program on the computer that you can make comics with.  We (c16tb and I) have taken all of our drawings and we are in the process of making a comic! Don’t fear, when we are done I will put it here! I’m a poet and I don’t know it! Tee-hee! So I better go work on it. Tootles!

Alice in Blogland!!:Stage Three

So, what’s new! Alright that’s great so let’s get started! We have made a LOT of progress in this past week. . . in fact we are using Comic Life on Tuesday! WOW! Let’s met Alice!

Alice is a cheerleader for her team back in California, the Lions. She is very emotional, check it out!:

c16tb and I have been working very hard.  We have finished drawing, our scenes and even editing our script.

Alright! Now that we got that out of the way, let’s go on.  The referee, Mr. Pillars, is the referee for Wonderland.  Alice does not know this.

Old Father William is this old guy who nobody knows where he came from, except his son The Youth.

The Youth was born like an Elvis, he even has his hair!!

So now you know our characters!

Alice in Blogland!!:Stage Two

Hi! Thanks for tuning in to this week’s episode of Alice in Blogland!! This week is about what I did in the past week… well obviously. We have chosen chapters to make into a comic with a partener (as you know…) and my partner is c16tb so check out her blog to see some more details! I got the chapter Advice From a Caterpillar and tb and I have wrote the script and decided what parts to use. Want a sneak peek? Well here:

Caterpillar- Who are you?
Alice- I don’t know Sir. I knew this morning, but now I don’t.
Caterpillar-What do you mean by that?
Alice- I can’t explain Sir. I’m just not myself.
Caterpillar-I don’t see what you mean.
Alice- I am afraid I can’t put it clearer. Being so many sizes in one day is quite confusing.
Caterpillar-what do you mean?
Alice- Maybe you haven’t found out yet, but when you become a butterfly, you will feel queer.
Caterpillar-You, WHO ARE YOU!
(Alice storms off.)
Caterpillar- Wait! Come back I have something important to say. Keep you temper.
Alice- Is that all?!!
Caterpillar-No.
Alice- I am losing my memory.
Caterpillar- Recite You are Old Father William.
Alice- ‘You are old, Father William’ the young man said. ‘And your hair has become very white, and yet you still stand on your head. Do you think at your age it is right?’
‘In my youth,’ Father William replied to his son. ‘I feared it might injure my brain, but now I am perfectly sure I have none. Why, I do it again and again.’
‘You are old,’ said the youth. ‘One would hardly suppose, that your eye was as steady as ever yet you balanced an eel at the end of your nose. What made you so awfully clever?’
‘I have answered three questions, and that is enough,’ said his father. ‘Don’t give your self air’s! Do you think I can listen all day to such stuff? Be off or I’ll kick you down the stairs!’

Caterpillar- That is not quite right.
Alice- Not quite right indeed.
Caterpillar- What size do you want to be?
Alice- Oh I don’t care, I just don’t like changing sizes so often. You know.
Caterpillar- No, I don’t know. Are you content now?
Alice- I want to be a little larger because I don’t like being three inches tall!
Caterpillar-One side of the mushroom makes you taller and the other shorter.
(Caterpillar disappears)
Alice- Which side is which?
(Takes a from each side. Nibbles on the one in her left hand. Grows a long neck.)
Alice- Finally my neck is shrinking!
(Finds little house.)

Hey, pretty good! Tell me how you like it! Leave a comment! We have also started illustrating it. See that Alice? Well I drew it. Like it well leave a comment! So any questions or comments leave a _ _ _ _ _ _ _! I am not going to say what it is because you should know. Well check it out next week! Tootles!

Forced Immigration

In February 2008 Edinger House learned about Forced Immigration. It took place a while ago.  Black people were illegally taken from Africa to America to become slaves.  They were on crowded ships with only bananas and bread to eat.  When they got to America they were sold to white people without choice, and then had to work for them, without getting money or clean clothes.  The slaves worked for hours and if they did something wrong they would get whipped. Sometimes slaves ran away! In the night they dressed in old clothes and stop at some houses where people offered a safe place for the night.  This was called the Underground Railroad. The people that helped the slaves could go to jail.  It was a hard time, but I enjoyed learning about it was very interesting.

Alice in Blogland!!:Stage One

Hi! I hate to say it but I am quiting blogging! Yes, it’s true. April Fools! (yesterday, anyway.) Anyway that is not why I am writing this. Today… I am writing a new SERIES! This series is called Alice in Blogland. Sounds good, huh? So lets get started!

Have you ever heard of Alice in Wonderland? Well if you think you have, you haven’t! The real title for Alice in Wonderland is Alice’s Adventure’s in Wonderland. Well let’s know why this post is Stage One ? Well let’s find out! We have been studying Lewis Carroll, Alice Liddell (and her sisters) and of course the book. I have some facts for all of these important people. (Except for the book.)

Lewis Carroll: His name isn’t really Lewis Carroll. It’s Charles Dodgeson.

Alice Liddell: She wasn’t a blond, she was a brunette.

The Book: The book was missing a lot of it’s chapters when Lewis Carroll/Charles Dogeson wrote it. Today those books millions of $.

We have learned about Alice Liddell, Lewis Carroll and the book. We watched the movies Betty Boop in Blunderland , 1900 House and The Young Visiters. Ms. Edinger also read the book aloud to us. If you are interested in Alice Adventures in Wonderland then keep reading this series and if you have questions or comments please leave a comment. Read the next post!

Cindy Story/The L.A. Cindy

The L.A. Cindy
by cw

“This is it, Selena!” my Dad said, “How do you like it?”

“It’s cool, fine,” I said not meaning it. We had just moved. I was 13 and had lived in Tennessee until my Dad’s company transferred him to L.A. My mom died when I was born, so bye-bye Mommy!

“Go pick your room,” my Dad said tossing me the key. I ended up picking the biggest room with the best view and my own bathroom! Maybe this wouldn’t be so hard!

*******

Everything was going great, I even made a new friend named Ally, and until the day everything changed.

“I am not going to the wedding!” I said brushing my long copper hair.

“Yes you are! And no other buts out of you,” my Dad said. I had taught him well… maybe too well because I ended up going to the wedding. It was final. He was marring this witch named Rianna. Rianna is like a Barbie doll so you can get the picture.

TWO YEARS LATER
“SELENA! SE-LEN-A! I NEED SOME CANDLES!” Muffy, Rianna’s daughter, screamed.

“Shut up!” shouted Cody, Rianna’s son. I sighed. This is how Cinderella must have felt. Soon after the wedding my Dad died so I was left with Rianna, Muffy, Buffy and Cody. Muffy, Buffy and Rianna were taking advantage of my niceness and made me do all the chores. Cody was much nicer than them. In fact I liked him. Halloween was coming up, what would I be?

*******

“I’m going to be Cinderella for Halloween!” I exclaimed while later calling Ally.

“Perfect Selena! I’m being a black cat!” Ally said, going on and on about details.

“’Kay got to go!” I said, hanging up without letting her answer.

*******

“Look over there. The coolest guys in school! Everyone wants to dance with them at the Halloween Dance, especially that one,” Ally said the next day at lunch. She was waving to Dylan Dirkton. He was so the coolest guy in school with his brown hair, blue eyes and big white smile.

“Yeah but he is so going with Brittany,” I said, nodding toward the popular table. Brittany Penner was the most popular girl in school; mean, selfish and rich. She was the perfect mean girl.

“I don’t get how he puts up with it,” she said, “let’s go sit down.”

*******
The day of the Halloween Dance I was fixing Rianna’s favorite pink dress when Cody walked into the room.

“Hey, why are you here and not at the Halloween Dance?” Cody asked.

“Well I was going to be Cinderella but Muffy and Buffy would kill me!” I sighed.

“That’s Muffy and Buffy you’re talking about! What would you’re Dad or Mom say?” Cody asked.

“He would say ‘Why are you here?’” I whispered. We ended up getting a mask, jewelry and glass slippers at the costume store and Cody went to get a dress from Rianna’s room.

“This was one looks like a Cinderella dress. Try it on!” Cody said smiling. The dress fit, I put on the stuff we got at the costume store, some makeup and put my long copper hair into a bun.

*******

When I got to the gym steps, I saw Ally was dressed as a black cat.

“Selena! Dylan and Brittany broke up!” Ally smiled.

“NO!” I said really, truly surprised.

“Yes! Now you can show him who he really deserves.”

She escorted me down the steps. The gym was silent (I later found out it was because I was so beautiful) until someone shouted, “Hey Cinderella, want to dance?” and the party went on.

“Cinderella, would you like to dance?” a gentle voice asked behind me; it was Dylan.

“Sure!” I said trying not to sound excited. He grabbed me and we started dancing.

“It’s really noisy in here!” I shouted above the music as I twirled.

“Yeah! Let’s go onto the running track,” he said calmly.

“Those eyes, that hair, that smile; you think I’d remember that from school,” he said staring at me.

“Maybe not, I’ve been at this school for two years and you’d be surprised at who I am at school.” I said grinning.

“Would you like to dance?” he asked.

“But there’s no music!” I said.

“So? Does that really matter?”

We danced the rest of the night, Dylan making me laugh by telling me how he got good grades and his friends called him a nerd until….“Cinderella! It’s midnight!” Ally called.

“This has been so great but I have to go.” And unfortunately, it’s hard to run in plastic heels so he caught up.

“I really have to go!” I said wiggling away.

“What’s your name?” he asked, getting one of my matching necklaces.

“Selena.” And I left. Cody grabbed me in the car and drove home.

*******

“Selena, what are you doing?” Muffy asked when she arrived, 2 minutes after I got home.

“Fixing Rianna’s dress, what else?” I asked, panting from behind the kitchen counter.

“Hmmm, very well, goodnight Selena.” And she walked out the door, Buffy following her.

Right before she walked out the door she said, “There was a pretty girl there with a dress that looked like Mother’s.”

“I heard Dylan is having a search party. Too bad you missed it!” and with that she left. I sighed and smiled.

“That was a close call!” I said, taking off my shirt with Cody’s dress right underneath! I went to bed, exhausted, dreaming of Dylan and the track.

*******

In school the next day, Dylan was at a table trying on the necklace asking if they had the other one, just like Buffy said.

“Go Selena! He’ll know it’s you!” Ally said pushing me in line. I touched my necklace.

“Do you have the necklace?” he asked me.

“Yes,” I breathed and took it off.

“Selena…” he said puzzled.

“Yes, I’m Selena Combie, and now you know it’s me so you can find another girl. How ‘bout Muffy my stepsister? She’s pretty. Or…” I said trying to hide my disappointment.

“Why? Because I have found the girl I’m looking for,” he interrupted me. I was so happy. Dreams do come true.

——————–

Hey, pretty good! Right? Well I want your to know what you think! So leave a comment to tell me what you think! Hey I got a lot of comments last time when I did a podcast… so I’m doing it again! Listen to it. Just listen to it. Trust me it won’t hurt you!
