poem
My Name is Te-me
I lived with my mother,
My older brother and sister peacefully.
Until one day all of these white ghosts
(White men)
Broke in to our house and
I was taken away from my
Mother and brother and sister forever. I thought I would not see
my house
the green trees
the green bananas.
I was taken to a ship the Amistad
It was dark and gloomy.
We only got a banana,
Bread and water a day.
I was starved as I hid in the dark.
Then I heard someone found a lose nail.
I got freed.
We sailed for days and days
Zigzagging
We stayed in a jail until the case was finished,
Then we could finally go home,
I was happy but then I did not know
Who
How
where
I would stay.
