People were taken from Africa to become slaves in America. In 1839, a young girl named Margru Kinson was taken to America.
She got put into a boat the Amistad. One day one of the Africans found a loose nail, and got everyone’s rope and freed every one. The Mendi people (Africans) made the captains go back to Africa so in the day the sailors steered back towards Africa but in the nighttime they would go towards America because the captains knew how to go to America by the stars. For three months they were zigzagging back and forth. Finally she got put into a jail and there she was brought some books to look at. Margru was taken to the Supreme Court and there they had a case about letting the Africans free. Former president John Quincy Adams made a 7-hour speech that freed the slaves. A couple years later, Margru and her friends were taken back to their homeland. They each got their own Christian names. Margru’s was Sarah. Margru later became a teacher.
poem
My Name is Te-me
I lived with my mother,
My older brother and sister peacefully.
Until one day all of these white ghosts
(White men)
Broke in to our house and
I was taken away from my
Mother and brother and sister forever. I thought I would not see
my house
the green trees
the green bananas.
I was taken to a ship the Amistad
It was dark and gloomy.
We only got a banana,
Bread and water a day.
I was starved as I hid in the dark.
Then I heard someone found a lose nail.
I got freed.
We sailed for days and days
Zigzagging
We stayed in a jail until the case was finished,
Then we could finally go home,
I was happy but then I did not know
Who
How
where
I would stay.
MIDDLE SCHOOL PLAY
I saw a middle school play called Half a Sixpence.
It was about a boy that was poor. He is in love with a girl who is also poor. One day he meets a boy that is a play writer and he puts him in his own play and the boy will be rich. So he finds out that he gets 1200 pounds a year. And then he meets another girl who is really rich and he asks her to marry him but then he levees her and says that he does not want to marry her. He wants to marry the first girl so they get married and they become rich.
I thought that the play was very good. It had good songs and good lines. I wish I could see the play every single day.
There ain’t no selling
Cause
There an’t no floors
Want to be drafty
