C15SS’S BLOG
BLOGGING IS OVER I AM SO SAD.
This year was great. The blogging was so much fun. I learned a lot from blogging. I learned you should not talk to people if you do not know them at all. I also learned how to write to the world. I enjoyed blogging because I got to tell the world my thoughts, and shoe them my stories. It felt like my stories were getting published. I did not, not like anything. My favorite post was my Cinderella story. I would always want to keep blogging going, but you can choose what to write on your blog.
My class watched the movie Wizard of Oz. We had to first read the book.
The book is not really like the movie. In the movie, the characters do not wear glasses when they go to the Emerald City but in the book they do. In the book there is the Good Witch Glinda who rules the Quadlings, but in the movie she rules the Munchkins. Another difference is that in the movie Dorothy has red ruby slippers, but in the book she has silver slippers. Do you want to know why? The reason is because at that time in 1939 MGM just started color and they wanted to show off the color so they made the slippers red ruby slippers.
Now I will go on. I did like the movie. I always liked Wizard of Oz; I also had a birthday party on it when I was turning four. But the thing I did like about the movie is that they have the same characters like the Scarecrow or the Cowardly Lion. The movie did miss a big part of the book, about 75 pages, but it was still good.
Now I have told you about the movie and the book so you can go now because I have nothing else to tell you. Are you still there?
I thought that Plimoth Plantation was really fun because you got to meet Pilgrims.
I was surprised that the people that played the Pilgrims cooked their own food. They even had their own real guns. I was very surprised how little the Mayflower was. It looked like nobody would be able to move.
I expected that there would be small wooden houses, and they look as I expected. They had little chimneys and little roofs. The roofs were made out of thatch.
In the evening we were split up into different groups and did these fun activities. The first one we did was to go into two different Pilgrim houses and study what was in them. After, we got to write with quills and we wrote our names. It was hard. Then we got to dress up into Pilgrim costumes but only three of us got to dress up. It was not me. Two boys and one girl got to dress costumes. It was really funny.
Last but not least we went to a stage and got to play with Pilgrim toys. There were: horses on sticks (not real), a doll, this bowling like game etc.
We also hade a Colonial dinner. We had turkey pottage, carrots, pear pie, and apple cider. It was good.
We had a really fun trip.
We are going to Plymouth Plantation in Cape Cod Massachusetts because we are studying Pilgrims. We are going for one night. I think Plymouth is a fun and an exotic place. I have been told that the second you get there you do some fun activities. People have made Plymouth into a sort of a museum and people come and looked at it. The people that build the museum recreate the houses and more stuff like that. They build the houses and more stuff with the tolls that they used back then as much as they could.
There are actors and actresses dressing up as Pilgrims and if you ask them a question they answer it.
I think we are going to have so much fun at Plymouth.
In New York the Dalton school fourth grade students in Edinger house studied forced immigration. Forced immigration is slavery. We studied about Africans being forced to come to America.
Their teacher, Monica Edinger, read some books to them about slavery, like the book Amistad Rising or The Village that Vanished. She showed them her book Africa Is My Home about Margru a slave that was on the Amistad. The Amistad was a ship that carried slaves. They wrote writing pieces about Margru and posted them on their blogs. A poet Natasha Trethewey wrote a poem with them, and then they each got to write a poem on the Amistad.
A fellow classmate brought in some artifacts from Mali, a
country in Africa so they could see it for themselves and learn more. Also, Monica Edinger brought in some artifacts from Sierra Leone. Forced immigration is a good thing to study about and they are very lucky that they got to study about it.

There once was an 14 year old girl named Katie Hambulfin that was as rich as a princess until one day her dad died, and her mom got remarried to a man who brought with him his two step-daughters named Mani and Sacureta. Katie had blue eyes and long, dirty-blond hair. She was short and skinny and very pretty. One day Katie’s mom went on a trip to Florida so her stepfather had to take care of her.
When her mom left, Katie went to her room and saw a note. She opened the note and the note said:
Dear Katie, u r now going to do exactly what we will tell u. Go to your closet and get your work clothes on and meet me in the kitchen.
From Groneyrta your step-
father.
Katie did not know what he was talking about, but she did what she was told and looked in her closet to find that all of her regular clothes were gone. Katie saw one ragged dress and a pair of slippers that were all torn up. Katie was very mad.
She started to cry, and then she remembered her step-dad’s commands. Katie put on her old ragged clothes and got to work in the kitchen.
Her first chore was to clean the ashes of the fire and after that to make the beds. After that was to… so on and so forth. That night Katie’s step dad told her to give her mattress to her stepsisters. “Stepfather,” asked Katie, “What mattress will I sleep on?”
“There will be no mattress for you and there will be no bed. You will now sleep in the shed,” her stepfather said. Katie was so mad she ran all the way down to the pool and jumped in it and stayed in it for one hour.
Later on, Katie went in to the kitchen and picked up the phone to call her mom but her step dad said the only way she could talk to her mom was if she did not say anything about being our servant. Katie said, “Ok.” But Katie only wanted to talk to her mom to tell her about what was really going on.
Her mom picked up and asked Katie if she was having a good time. Katie was about to say no but…Katie’s step dad choked her and she fainted.
The next day Katie woke up to find she did know where she was and then she remembered she was in the shed. She got out to eat her breakfast, but she could not eat until she served her stepfamily.
Later in the afternoon Katie’s stepfamily got a letter from the famous movie star Jasper Blue. The stepsisters, Mani and Sacureta, were so happy when they read the letter.
Hello my Hollywood stars,
You are welcome to come to my new TV show “My New Friend’s House. “ I will pick a girl that will be at my before party at the beach. The girl that I will pick has to be talented and beautiful and full of generosity and most of all she has to be nice to every one in the world.
From your Jasper Blue,

The next day the stepdaughters got up to get ready for the party. By the time they finished getting dressed it was time to go. Mani wore a red bathing suit with a big dark purple skirt with black stripes and a bright yellow shirt. Sacureta wore a prune color skirt, an orange bathing suit, and a yellow striped shirt. They wore yellow and red eye shadow and red lipstick. Katie thought they would never get to be on the TV show.
After they left, Katie almost fell asleep when she heard someone say, “Hi Katie, I am your fairy good mother. What is wrong?”
“I want to go to the beach party!” said Katie.
“That is what I thought,” said the fairy good mother. “So let’s go.”
“I do not have any clothing to wear,” said Katie, but then, in one poof, Katie was wearing a blue mini skirt with a white tank top and a pink lace long sleeve shirt a pink bikini and of course a pair of little glass flip-flops. Katie was almost ready to go but she did not know how to get to the party, so the fairy good mother asked Katie for a pumpkin. Katie was back with the pumpkin in less than a minute. Then poof! The fairy good mother turned the pumpkin into a silver limousine. Katie got into the limo and then she heard her fairy good mother say, “Be back before 12:00 midnight or the magic will wear out.”
At the party, Katie was playing with her friends and eating dinner and so on and so forth, when suddenly everyone started screaming and yelling out “I LOVE JASPER BLUE WOOOO.” Then they went quiet.
“Hello my fans. How are you? During this party I will meet and dance with you and then choose my new movie star. Let’s get going then!” So Jasper asked Katie to dance and they danced nicely together.
One hour later, Jasper came up to the mike, and said “Hello, my fans. I will now choose my new co-star. Will Katie Hambulfin now come up?” The stepsisters were looking confused and Katie was racing out the door (remembering her fairy god mother’s instructions). Katie was almost outside when she lost one of her flip-flops. Chasing after her, Jasper picked up the shoe and…
Back home Katie was cleaning up a mess when her stepsisters arrived. Katie said, ” How was the party?”
“Good,” said Mani. “There was a girl there with the same last and first name as you. It was really weird, but we did not really see her because there were over 1,000,000 people at the party.” Thinking no further of it, they all went to bed.
The next morning, Katie heard the doorbell ring. “Hello,” said Jasper Blue. “Does Katie Hambulfin live here? I need to find the person who fits this flip-flop as she will star in my next movie.” Both Mani and Sacureta tried the flip-flop, but it did not fit. Then Jasper saw Katie cleaning the living room.
“Would you like to try the flip-flop?” he asked.
“No,” said Mani, “ She would not like to try it on.” But Jasper Blue said that all girls had to try on the flip-flop so Katie tried on the shoe and it fit and Katie and Jasper lived happily ever after.
The End
Now do you want to know what happened with the stepsisters? They each married a boy and each had 126 children. Sacureta had all boys. Mani had 125 boys and one girl. So I guess they did not have a good life. Oh yea and the dad died when he was 47 years old and he was so poor he did not even have a penny. I am very happy that I am not them. Now this is the real end. Oh yea do you want to hear about the movie? Well, that is a whole different story.
THE END
People were taken from Africa to become slaves in America. In 1839, a young girl named Margru Kinson was taken to America.
She got put into a boat the Amistad. One day one of the Africans found a loose nail, and got everyone’s rope and freed every one. The Mendi people (Africans) made the captains go back to Africa so in the day the sailors steered back towards Africa but in the nighttime they would go towards America because the captains knew how to go to America by the stars. For three months they were zigzagging back and forth. Finally she got put into a jail and there she was brought some books to look at. Margru was taken to the Supreme Court and there they had a case about letting the Africans free. Former president John Quincy Adams made a 7-hour speech that freed the slaves. A couple years later, Margru and her friends were taken back to their homeland. They each got their own Christian names. Margru’s was Sarah. Margru later became a teacher.
