Blogging in Edinger house is so cool and fun. People could read our blogs and they could comment on them, like write now!

What I like about Edinger house blogs is that you could write about things that are happening in our school like the study of Cinderella, forced immigration, Sarah Margru Kinson, Pilgrims and more.

What I am trying to say is that I enjoyed blogging in Edinger house.

What surprised me at Plimoth was that the people who were acting like Pilgrims did a really good job. Like when people asked them questions they could answer them sharply.
They even spoke how the Pilgrims spoke.

The other thing that surprised me was the food. The 6th graders in The Dalton School said that the food was horrible but the children I was sitting with loved it. We had turkey pottage, boiled carrots, butter and wheat bread, pear pie, cheese and apple cider and water. The 6th graders said that the turkey pottage was not good at all but the children I was sitting with had 2 gigantic bowls of it.

Our class went to the village in Plimoth and we went on a replica of the Mayflower. The village was really cool. I learned so much from it and it was amazing how the Pilgrims lived back in the 1600’s.

The replica of the Mayflower was amazing. What I like the most about the Mayflower 2 is that when you go on it you feel like you are a Pilgrim and you are on the actual Mayflower.

While we were at Plimoth we did some activities. We learned how to write with an ink pen, we saw what Pilgrims would wear in the 1600’s and we played games that the children would of played in the 1600’s.

At the colonial dinner we learned Pilgrim tale manners, it was really fun. I could even tell you some of them.

1. Put your napkin on your plate with your fork, spoon and knife on it.
2. Serve the grown-ups before you eat and make shore he or she is satisfied.
3. If you are a male put your napkin on your shoulder and if you are a women you should put your napkin on your lap.
4. Do not rock in your chair because the people around you will think you are going to give a past of wind. A past of wind means that you are going to fart or pass gas.

Do you feel like you want to go to Plimoth now? If you do it is located in Boston and if you have a project on Pilgrims you need to go there. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed what I wrote about Plimoth.

EDINGER HOUSE’S STUDY OF FORCED IMMIGRATION

From December 2006 through March 2007 Edinger House studied forced immigration and slavery. We did this project for a long time. I am about to show you some reasons we studied forced immigration.

1. It is a part of history
2. It is information you should just know about.

To study forced immigration we read the unpublished book, Africa is My Home by Monica Edinger.

Africa Is My Home is the story of Sarah Margru Kinson, a girl on the Amistad. If you do not know what the Amistad is, it was a ship that took a lot of African people to America to be slaves.

Africa Is My Home is not out yet but since Monica Edinger wrote it, the kids in her class got to read it, on a special blog.

The poet Natasha Trethewey came to our school to read some poems to us. The poems that she read to us were her friend’s poems. The poems that her friend wrote were about the slaves on the Amistad.

When Natasha finished reading the poems to us, a few days later Ms.Edinger decided the kids should write their own poems about the Africans on the Amistad.

The 2nd time Natasha came to Literary Salon to hear the poems Edinger House made. If you do not know what Literary Salon is, it is when you read books and eat treats. Instead of reading books, Edinger house read their poems.

We are studying it because a visitor came and she said it would be a great subject for our class. My teacher Monica Edinger you might know her from her books, or her blog.

The first thing we did that is apart of forced immigration is tape record somebody went though immigration. I interviewed my dad because he is from Jamaica. Out of the recordings, we made a book when we finished.

The second thing we did is read the retold story of Sarah Margru Kinson by Monica Edinger. It was about a girl from Africa and she was a slave on the ship called the Amistad. It was a good book, you should read it.

Do not forget since this is the last sentence please can you write a comment

Announcement

On
January 12
3:45pm – 7:00pm
First Floor Theater

There will be a dance competition
for Chad Edward’s new dance partner on television.
Everyone is invited to try out!

When Emily saw this one-day in school, she got very excited. She was a good dancer! She thought her only problem was that she had stage fright. But then she saw the Pitler sisters in the hallway. They were the meanest girls in the whole school, popular and good dancers. The Pitler sisters always picked on Emily because she was also a great dancer and prettier than them but they didn’t want to admit it. They asked Emily, “Are you going to the dance competition? Don’t bother to answer. It does not matter because we’re going to beat you.” They laughed cruelly.

Emily talked it over with her friends and decided she was going to try out. She practiced day and night. Emily knew her best friend Casie was also trying out, but she was terrified of the Pitler sisters because they were trying out. Emily started to get sick. She threw up about four times.

When Emily got home, she started to cry her eyes out. Emily’s brother Ken was upstairs pulling up weights. He heard his sister crying and came down stairs. Ken asked, “Why are you crying?”

Emily said, “Because I saw the Pitler sisters’ name on the dance competition, and I know they are going to do something bad to me.”

Ken said to Emily that it was going to be all right. To calm herself down she took a walk outside.

While Emily was taking a walk, she saw Chad. Emily was really shy so she didn’t say hi or hello to him. But when she ran across the street to get to the grocery store, by accident she tripped over Chad’s foot. Chad recognized Emily’s face. He said, “Aren’t you the girl that’s entering the dance competition?”

Emily said, “Yes.”

“Great!” Chad said. “I saw you dance before and you’re amazing! Emily, if you win you could be on television on my new show Can You Dance.”

“I really hope I do win!” Emily said. “Anyway I have to go home and practice dancing and do my homework.”

“O.K. Bye.” Emily practiced for four hours, and then she went to sleep.

“Oh no! I just remembered that the dance competition is tomorrow! I have to go upstairs and practice!” Emily practiced for seven hours this time. Then when she finished practicing the dances she was going to do (which were the tango, jazz, tap and hip-hop), she went shopping for the dance competition. She bought this amazing outfit. It was pink, blue and purple. It had sparkles on it and it looked like an ice skating dress.

The next day, just as Emily was leaving school for the competition, the Pitler sisters grabbed her and pushed her in the janitor’s closet. Emily was screaming for help and crying. Suddenly the door opened. It was her best friend Casie who had heard her screams. They both ran to the theater.

Emily was late for the dance competition, but still just in time to try out.

When Emily walked back stage everybody was already dressed, so she had to get dressed fast. When she looked in front of the curtain, the Pitler sisters were up. They were doing the tango, and they were doing really well. As a matter of fact, everybody was doing great! Emily was pretty scared because everybody was doing so well. When the Pitler sisters got off stage, they said to Emily, “Beat that.”

She was up. The first dance she did was fine and the second was great, but the third was horrible. When Emily was doing the Tango, she tripped! She was so embarrassed, but at the end she came in first because she did seven cartwheels without stopping! The Pitler sisters were so mad they went to the 2nd floor balcony and jumped off!

The Pitler sisters broke one arm each and sprained their ankles. Isn’t that a coincidence? Emily and the Pitler sisters were the only people in the theater, and Emily wanted to get back at them for being so mean to her. So Emily told them if they needed help to let her know. The Pitler sisters said no, but Emily said, “I am going to lock you guys in here until I get you some help.”

Meanwhile, since Emily won she got a scholarship and got to be on television. After that competition, her whole life changed. The Pitler sisters did not pick on her any more, everyone in school congratulated her all the time, and Emily loved all the attention.

The End.

Afterword: If you are wondering what happened to Emily when she grew up, I can tell you. You know in my story how I said that whoever won the competition got to be on TV? Well, the director of the show said that Emily danced amazingly, so they made a movie about her called Dancing Emily.

Sarah Margru Kinson was an African girl who was on the Amistad. I read the historical fiction book by Monica Edinger about Margru. Her father pawned Margru because the village needed food. In the story Ms. Edinger imagines why her father pawned her — so she said’ because the village needed food.’

Margru Kinson calls the white men that was on the ship ‘White ghosts.’ When Margru was on the ship she had to stay below the deck packed with Africans at the very dark bottom. Margru had a strange thought that the ‘white ghost’ (the white man) was going to eat her. Because they had no reason to take her away, at least that’s what she thought. Day and night she was dreaming about her mom and her dad.

Now you know a tiny bit about the story. If you like it you could read it. And if you don’t like it, I recommend you should because if you like a emotional, touching and heart warming documentaries you came to the right place.
