My Buddies in New Orleans

In this post my buddy at the lower section (in the third grade) of The Dalton School will be writing a post about their relation to a school in New Orleans.

I have a very enjoyable relationship with two children at a school in New Orleans, Louisiana. The children that I’m friendly with go to the Lusher School. I feel very bad for one of my buddies because her house was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. In this relationship were not only getting to know each other but soon we will work together on a project to help rebuild New Orleans. I have a lot of similarities with my buddies. Some of the similarities I have with my buddies are we like school, we enjoy doing the same things, and we have feelings to try and help rebuild New Orleans. I’m really enjoying this experience and I’m really happy we can help. This is a great project to get to know and work with children in another state. Together with my buddies I’m forming a great relationship. As we exchange our letters our thoughts get through to each other and we really work together. Our class at the Dalton School and the children at the Lusher School will work together to help rebuild New Orleans.

From rags to riches, that is what happens to Kipps the poor draper who falls in love. One day Kipps finds out that he is an heir to one million pounds. Half A Sixpence is an amazing musical preformed by the Dalton middle school, it is  based on the book Kipps by H.G Wells.

There are some very well played parts such as
Arthur Kipps (lead character).
Mrs.Shalford (owner of the drapery shop).
Harry Chitterlow (a very energetic playwright).
Ann Pornick (Arthur’s childhood sweetheart).
Helen Walsingham (Arthur’s teacher).
And many other amazing actors and actresses.

Sad, yet thrilling So B. It.

Heidi It has gone her whole life wondering about her past. Most kids know who their dad is and have known him their whole life Heidi has never met hers. The reason for this is because Heidi’s mom is retarded and can only say 23 words. This is according to Bernie the neighbor that has been taking care of Heidi and her mom since Heidi was a week old and she and her mama came here with nothing.
A surprise about her mother sets her of on an adventure. And when you start something there is no turning back.

So B. It is an amazing book that is impossible to put down.
It is fun for adults and children. I definitely recommend it.

The Journal of Wong Ming Chung

The Journal of Wong Ming Chung By Laurence Yep tells the story of a Chinese gold miner who comes to America hoping he will be able to support his family. Laurence Yep describes all that Wong Ming Chung has been through with such detail you feel as if you have had to struggle through all of his hardships yourself. Here is an example of his descriptive language. “My legs felt as soft as bean curd when I stepped out of the valley with Father. I thought the sky was going to fall down and crush me.” (p. 36)

Yep also uses a lot of historical information such as, “When I first felt the ground shaking, I thought it was an earthquake. The driver said it was caused by a quarts mill. Since the gold is gone from the river, the Americans have turned to the land where gold can be found in white rocks called quartz. “ (p. 79) I am sure that Laurence Yep had to do a lot of research to find out that you can find gold inside quartz.

Overall I think this is a book that can’t be put down.

When Dawn left Jamaica

I have studied the Oral History of my sitter who emigrated from Jamaica in 1993. Her name is Dawn. It is a very interesting story about what it was like for Dawn to see snow for first time and to see buildings as big as the ones in America and many other things.
I hope you enjoy my book!
