New Orleans Buddies

This is a paragraph written by my third grade buddy. He read it to me and I typed it up.

In New Orleans I want to do a fundraiser for schools that got badly damaged. We have many differences and similarities. These are some differences like kingcakes and beignets and some of the similarities: we both have bagels and snow cones.

Also we are going to learn together. Our class has seen pictures of the houses that got knocked down by the hurricane and in assembly we talked about how our relationships
are going to get better.

Half a Sixpence

“Half a Sixpence” is about poor draper named Arthur Kipps who becomes a millionaire. It is a Cinderella story because Kipps goes from rags to riches and then back down to rags and after that right back to riches.
Over all I thought that “Half a Sixpence” was a good play.  It was funny at some parts but more serous at others.  I thought that it was a good play but at a few parts it got a little boring but otherwise it was a good play.

How I Became an American

Karin Gundisch wrote How I Became an American in German and it was translated into English by James Skofield. How I Became an American is a good work of historical fiction. It is a pretty straightforward book with interesting historical facts, but not too many literary devices like metaphors and such. For example, a likely true fact that the author used was that when boarding houses were full, people stayed in private homes. Also, Karin Gundisch did a very good job describing how poorly the people had to dress at work. There are some good descriptive moments in the book such as when she describes the treats that they have on Christmas Eve. The “whole house smelled of vanilla and cinnamon.” At one point the main character compares himself to a staving man and at another point he notes that something “preyed on my mind….” These are some of the historical and literary things about this book. It’s a good book so I suggest you read it.

From a Kid to a Rider

Eragon is a fantastic book. It is about a kid named Eragon whose mom abandons him when he is born and gives him to his uncle. After that no one knows where his mom is and no one knows whom his dad was. But then one day the Ra’zac who are servants for the king come for the stone (dragon egg) that Eargon found. When they come Eargon’s dragon flies off with Eragon without letting Eargon get into her mind so he can talk to her.

When they get back to Eragon’s house he finds his house destroyed and uncle almost died. Eargon drags him to the nearest town were they try to help his uncle but they can’t and he dies. So then Eragon sets off on an adventure with a wise man in his village to get revenge on the Ra’zac.

If you want to find out what happens read this fantastic book. Oh I almost forgot, when Christopher Paolini wrote this book he was only 16 years old.

About My Book

The book that I wrote is about my sitter. It is about how she emigrated from Grenada and immigrated to America and it has all of her exciting stories. For instance, on one Thanksgiving someone took something from her, but I’m not going to tell you what. So read my sitter’s interesting story.
