Kagne

Somewhere far away
I dream of my father mother, my four brothers and four sisters in Africa with the trees swaying and the people laughing
not the Africans on board crying.
I know that they would be happy to see me there,
as I would be happy to see them in Africa too.

I wish to see my family again
at home where I belong
with everything beautiful and our house made with mud and sticks, not with these people
in someplace where they wear many strange clothes,
well if they are people.
Somewhere far away is my family, in Africa, at home.

Days later I was on a ship with other Africans like me.
Our captors speak to us in a language that I do not understand.
All of us Africans are in a dark hold sad and cold,
It’s no place like home where I belong.
Somewhere far away is my family living like I used to.

Somewhere far away is my family, laughing and having fun.
Somewhere far away is my family, laughing and having fun.

Somewhere.
