Today I went and visited Crystal’s blog on a New Zealand blog. She was writing about herself and she wrote that she liked animals. Since she was writing about herself I commented and said that she should be careful about what she says about herself.

Africa is my home

Africa is my Home is a great book written by Monica Edinger a.k.a. my teacher. Africa is my Home is not a published book but it will soon be. (Maybe) So any way, Africa is my Home is a historical fiction book about Sarah Margru Kinson. The images are some from newspapers, black and white, color and portraits. The newspapers are interesting and the black and white pictures are helpful to the story. All of the pictures are nice and Monica Edinger took a lot of time picking them out. I learned a lot about Margru and all the other girls on the Amistad. It was very interesting. One of the examples of why it was interesting is that it gives exact dates of when everything happens. Another thing is that Margru is scared of white ghosts. White ghosts in this case are white men because she has never seen any person with white skin color before. This is a part that is a fictional part. So when Africa is my Home is available you should read it.

Teme

Me.
A young girl
living with her mother,
her elder brother,
her sister.
My poor father was dead.

Me.
The one who never could see her mother again
because some people
killed her.

Me.
The one
taken
together with some other girls.

Me.
The one
who was sad
because she could never be
with her parents ever again.
That was the worst feeling she had there.

Me.
A sad little girl
who had to work through her life
with terrible things happening to her.
She was the one that had to be by herself
besides her sister and brother.

Me.
The one who was not
going to be happy again.

4th Graders on the use of a word in The Higher Power of Lucky

Filed under: Uncategorized — edinger at 8:54 am on Friday, February 23, 2007

To the Editor of the New York Times,
Our teacher read to us a bit of the book, The Higher Power of Lucky, (”One Troublesome Word,” February 21, 2007) and when she asked us what was wrong only one person knew it was about the word scrotum and the rest of us had ideas that had nothing to do with the word. We were appalled to hear that some librarians had banned the book from their libraries just because of some old word. Our teacher only read us a little bit of the book, but we thought it sounded very good and do not agree with people who banned the book.

Sincerely Yours

NOLA Buddies

A report that my third grade buddy wrote.

This summer my teacher went to New Orleans, Louisiana and met another teacher at the Lusher school. Now the students at the Lusher school and the students in my class are buddies. We write letters like pen pals but we are still more than that. I now know lots about my buddy. We have a lot of similarities and differences. Our buddies have been trading food like king cakes, bagels and beignets. We have been trying to raise money for NOLA. The way we know what they need is by getting to know them. We really want everyone to help so during an assembly we shared about our buddies. For example, we told them about the flood and about our relationship. In a letter they wrote us “I am from poems.” We wrote, “I am from poems” back. “I am from poems” explain where we are from. I find my relationship with my buddy very special because I have a friend that is very different from most of my friends because they are so far away but we still stay in touch.

Holes, Holes and lots of Holes

Filed under: Uncategorized — c15hu at 5:36 pm on Friday, February 9, 2007

The book Holes is about this kid named Stanley Yelnats (because Stanley spelt backwards is yelnats) who had this great, great, great pig stealing of a grandpa. Not a grandpa but a great, great, great grandpa. All of his grandparents were named Stanley Yelnats and it was a tradition that if anyone in the family was a boy that would be there name. So anyway he stole a pair of sneakers that belonged to this guy named Clyde who was a basketball player and a center that was auctioning them off to make some more money. So anyway he was taken to court and he decided to go to a place called Camp Green Lake, so he obviously thought that it was going to be fun. He was wrong. It was all dry and full of sand. Everyday they had to dig a hole that was exactly 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep. It was hard work.

I think that Holes is a good book because it is interesting and that I thought the book Holes would be bad and that it was only for boys. So I decided to read it because there is book contest and what you have to do is you read books on the list and then you will be asked questions about the books and it could be any book on the list. This book is really short and so I would read it sooner than later. This book is a fast read so most people can read it in one single day. I love this book and I definitely recommend it.

Rags to Riches

“Half a Sixpence” is about a guy named Arthur Kipps who is really poor and he works at this shop. The owner is really mean and she sends him to an art class and he really likes the girl who runs it. He asked her to marry her but did she say yes or no? Did they end up getting married if she said yes? You have to see it to find out.
I thought that the play was really good. If I saw it again I know that I would learn more about it. “Half a Sixpence” had really good actors and actresses. That play made me want to see other people does it and compare them. To bad I can’t. I would definitely recommend it.
