Great! Amazing! How I Became An American by Karin Gundisch is all of these and more. It is an historical fiction book about a boy on a journey to America. It is an amazing work of historical fiction, because all of it is true and happened to a lot of people but she also experienced it. Along with that it has a lot of great description. For example, “that preyed on my mind, too, because I know that our grandparents were waiting for news from us” (p. 36). I recommend this book to anybody that comes across it.

In my class we are studying oral history. The project was to interview an immigrant and write a story about her travels. I interviewed my library teacher. She came from Taipei. Her story is very exciting and I recommend you read it.
